Vegas Eliminates Colorado to Advance to Stanley Cup Semifinals

The last of the four semifinal teams in the Stanley Cup playoffs was decided on June 10th as the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Colorado Avalanche 6-3 in Game 6 of their series. Vegas had dropped the first two games in the series before reeling off four straight wins.

With Colorado’s elimination, none of the four regular season winners of the Covid revamped temporary divisions remained in the playoffs. Colorado and Vegas tied with 82 points in the West Division, but the Avalanche won it on tiebreakers. Toronto, Pittsburgh, and Carolina, the other division winners, were all eliminated.

Vegas will play Montreal in one semifinal. Montreal won the playoffs in the all Canada North Division, created due to travel restrictions between that nation and the U.S. However, the Golden Knights and Canadiens will travel between the two countries more or less as usual for this series, with Vegas having home ice advantage. Game 1 will be in Vegas June 14th. The Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders will get the semifinals underway the day before that, with Tampa Bay hosting New York on June 13th.
