Kathy on Secret Life

17-year-old Cierra Ramirez is the latest addition to the cast of Secret Life of the American Teenager, portraying a pregnant teen named Kathy at Grant High. Guidance counselor, Katelyn O’Malley (Beverley Mitchell) enlisted Amy (Shailene Woodley) to mentor Kathy in “I Do and I Don’t.”

Amy points out that she already has a lot on her plate but O’Malley thinks she’s perfect for the task. Amy and Kathy talk about getting “knocked up” over some of that wedding cake, one of the many gifts being showered on Amy and Ricky (Darren Kagasoff) now that everyone believes they are married.

Kathy makes it pretty plain to Amy that she knows how she got into her current predicament — letting her boyfriend talk her into unprotected sex with his so-called foolproof birth control method. She says she doesn’t mind listening to Amy, but she has no intention of ending up married with a baby like Amy.

Well, it’s probably a good thing that she doesn’t want to end up like Amy who has gotten herself and Ricky into a pretty fix, lying about their “elopement.”

It’s probably also a good thing that they brought in Cierra to play Kathy, now that Grace’s half-brother, Jacob (Jordan Fisher), has gone back to Africa and Amy’s sister, Ashley (India Eisley), just came back long enough to let her parents find out she was having sex (protected sex, that is) with Toby (Jared Kusnitz).

Still, ya gotta admit, Secret Life has more characters and storylines going on than they know what to do with.
