John Travolta in “Gotti” Due Out June 15th

We were following this project all the way back in 2011 when it was going to be called “Gotti: Three Generations” and Al Pacino and Joe Pesci were supposed to co-star in it with John Travolta.

That same year, Joe Pesci was offered a role other than that of Angelo Ruggiero and for less than the $3 million deal he originally made. He sued Fiore Films and eventually settled with them for an undisclosed sum.

Also in 2012, the word was that the project was just dead due to financing issues as well as a tabloid scandal surrounding Travolta, and we were suggesting some alternative casting possibilities.

Well, now it’s a finished picture and we totally missed the news that the movie was filmed in Cincinnati in 2016 and was scheduled for a limited release last December by Lionsgate. At that time, the producers decided to buy it back while they worked on getting a wide theatrical release. Kevin Connolly, the film’s director, announced last week that the biopic will be out on June 15, 2018, so they were able to make that happen.

Travolta is the only person who was originally supposed to be in it that still is! Travolta’s wife, Kelly Preston, is Victoria Gotti and their daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta, has a role as Angel, one of the Gotti children. Stacy Keach is Neil Dellacroce, the role Pacino was originally supposed to get, and Pruitt Taylor Vince is Angelo Ruggerio.

John Travolta must really have wanted to play this part and here he is in the trailer as John Gotti.

Not to be nitpicky, but we couldn’t help noticing Travolta’s blue eyes. Gotti had brown eyes. Maybe they didn’t have room in the budget for contact lenses. Just sayin’
