Gotti Biopic: What Happened?

There’s been a lot of back and forth online over whether John Travolta is still going to play John Gotti in the “Shadow of My Father” biopic that was reportedly set to shoot later this year and be out next year.

Last report we heard was Victoria Gotti, the widow of the mob boss, had no problem with Travolta continuing in the role.  But at the end of May, on Forbes, Roger Friedman wrote that the project was dead as a doornail, due primarily to lack of money, although he called the Travolta tabloid scandal the “final nail.”

In early June, producer Marc Fiore sent a press release out indicating that he was still looking at Lindsay Lohan to play Kim Gotti, but Lindsay’s people quickly released their own statement saying that wasn’t going to happen.

There’s really nothing definitive on whether Travolta is in or out, but just in case he’s out, we came up with a couple of possible replacements:

David Boreanaz could play John Gotti. Whaddya think? They’d have to work on his hair a little but think about it. David’s like 43 and Travolta’s 58, and in real life, John Gotti was in his 40s when Junior Gotti came of age.

How about Victor Alfieri. Well, again, there’s the hair issue. He has that beautiful hair and we don’t know if he’d be up for cutting it or going gray for an older Gotti, but he’s 40 …

Just a couple of ideas, but it looks like Roger Friedman might be right that it’s a dead deal …

Fiore Film has made no announcements on its website about the film since last February but more to the point, they’ve let the domain expire on the film’s official site
