Gunnar Henderson Homers and Drives in Two Runs as the Baltimore Orioles Snap Five Game Losing Streak
Baltimore shortstop Gunnar Henderson went three for four at the plate, homered, and drove in two runs as the Orioles ended a five game losing streak by beating the Cleveland Guardians 4-2 in Baltimore June 26th.
The 23 year old Henderson was last year’s American League Rookie of the Year. In 150 games, he scored 100 runs, had 29 doubles, nine triples, 28 homers, and 82 RBIs and had an OPS of .814. This year he could top those numbers: after 79 games, he’s scored 70 runs, hit 16 doubles, four triples, 26 homers, and 57 RBIs, and has an OPS of 1.005. He’s also reached base in 33 straight games. We are in an age of excellent shortstops–Mookie Betts, Elly De La Cruz, C.J. Abrams, Francisco Lindor, Bobby Witt—to name a few, and Henderson is already among the elite at his position.
