Flyers Win Sixth Straight, Move Into First Place in NHL Metropolitan Division

After playing three scoreless periods and overtime, the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Montreal Canadiens in a shootout for a 1-0 win on February 26th. It was Philadelphia’s sixth straight victory; the Flyers (34-19-10) are 10-0-2 in their last 12 games. They’ve certainly turned it around since December 3rd, when they were 8-11-7.

With the victory and the Washington Capitals’ loss at Columbus, the Flyers moved into first place in the Metropolitan Division. It’s tight at the top; Philadelphia has 78 points, Washington has 77, and third place Pittsburgh has 76. The Flyers host Carolina on March 1st, and then face a tough test at Tampa Bay on March 3rd. The Lightning have 89 points, the most in the NHL .

Speaking of the Lightning, while the Flyers and Capitals were battling it out, Tampa Bay was hosting Toronto. The Maple Leafs are in second place in the Atlantic Division behind the Lightning. Tampa Bay also had to go to a shootout before winning 4-3. The Maple Leafs have 84 points, and that is also the second best record not only in the Atlantic, but in the Eastern Conference as well. The Boston Bruins are right behind the Leafs with 82 points.
