Alex Trebek gave his assessment of the premiere week of Season 37 before Friday’s game began: “”We had two games that were runaways. We had one player, a challenger, who didn’t make it into Final Jeopardy. We’ve had some substantial payoffs and one payday of less than $5,000. A great variety indeed.” There were also two instances of players crossing off the right answer and giving a wrong answer! That accounts for why there were no games when everyone got FJ!

To top all that off, there was a big hullabaloo on Tuesday over one player’s response getting rejected over spelling it with an “A”, and not an E. Multitudes insisted the two names are pronounced the same. Jeopardy! took the position that they are two entirely different names, regardless of whether they are pronounced alike. That is true. The two names do not have the same meaning, unlike sound-a-like variations such as Jon and John or Stephen and Steven. That was the only game this week where no one got FJ!

Jeopardy! champs, week of September 14, 2020

On Wednesday, she was defeated by David Ferrara. He lost to Joe Velasco on Thursday. On Friday, Sarah Twilley sent Joe home and she will begin the week with us next Monday.
