WHO ARE THE BEATLES?

“A Hard Day’s Night” was first released in the USA as a track on the Beatles’ album by the same name in June 1964, and released as a single a month later. The title was inspired by an observation by Ringo Starr after a hard day’s work that didn’t end until night. “Eight Days a Week” was released in the USA in February 1965. Paul McCartney has named two sources for the song: an overworked chauffeur or Ringo Starr, sounding like an overworked chauffeur. John Lennon remembered both titles as what he called “Ringo-isms.”

“A Hard Day’s Night” was also the title of the Beatles’ first film from 1964. A documentary called “The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years” came out in 2016.

Johnny picked the Rolling Stones. He didn’t get no Satisfaction: he bet and lost it all.

Dimitri got it right. He bet $11,001, bringing him up to $23,601.

Katy got it right, too. She bet $3,000, bringing her score up to $19,300 and earning a “boo, hiss” from Trebek. That made Robert Dimitri the new Jeopardy! champ.

Do other people think that Jeopardy, unintentionally of course, discriminates against the poor? For example, on Friday there was a category about the Disney park. What if you could never afford to go? That category hurts poor people, IMO.

Also, categories about premium cable hurt the poor. What if you can’t afford premium cable? The poor are at a disadvantage to the wealthy when it comes to premium cable tv. I’m sure there are other examples also.

I know that life is not fair, but I feel Jeopardy should go out of its way to make the show fairer to the economically disadvantaged. Just my 2 cents.

Katy would have won if she had more courage. Getting 2 Daily Doubles correct in a row and answering the FJ correctly, and still losing. WOW!!! Sometimes you just have to go for it.

    • John B. says:

You should ALWAYS cover against second, unless it is an absolutely outlandish category, where you have NO idea and can possibly think the others don’t either. Just imo.

  3. Louis says:

The beatles are a great band, VJ. Do you like hey Jude, and what other songs from the beatles band? I thought Johnny could pull off a win but I hope Dimitri builds his lead.within the next several days. Plus, good play by Katy although I would love to see her bet more. Did the rolling stones come in second place on the top 1960 s bands?

    • Richard Corliss says:

Why does Robert have his last name on the lectern?

    • VJ says:

@Lou, if I had to say a favorite song by the Beatles, it’s most likely Fool on the Hill but by Sergio Mendes and Brasil ’66. I think that most sites do list The Stones as the second most popular British Invasion band.

I was surprised Katy didn’t get that ___ Joan title, after crediting her handwriting prowess to 10 years of Catholic school. Alex mentioned getting whacked with the ruler. I got plenty of that myself but not for handwriting. It was because I can’t hold a pen or pencil “right.” Didn’t make a difference. I still hold it the “wrong” way.
