Final Jeopardy Clues: 9-6 to 9-10-21

Here are the Final Jeopardy clues last week of the 2021 Tournament of Champions. The first three games were devoted to the semi-finals. The winners of those games competed in the 2-day finals on Thursday and Friday.

These games originally aired on May 24 through May 28, 2021. This was the last week of reruns before Season 38 begins on Monday, September 13th.

Mon, May 24 – Correct answers: 3
20th CENTURY ARTWORK: The artist’s wife described the scene of this 1942 painting as “brilliant interior of cheap restaurant” show

Tue, May 25 – Correct answers: 2
NOBEL-WINNING NOVELISTS: Falsely accused of murder, a character in his 1948 novel becomes “tyrant over the whole county’s white conscience” show

Wed, May 26 – Correct answers: 2
CLASSICAL COMPOSERS: Monsieur Crescendo & Signor Vaccarmini (“Mr. Racket”) were derisive nicknames for this composer whose last opera dates from 1829 show

Thu, May 27 – Correct answers: 2
MUSIC & GEOGRAPHY: In a British folk tune, the title lass Maggie May is sentenced to go way down south to this penal colony that rhymes with her name show

Fri, May 28 – Correct answers: 1
EUROPEAN BORDERS: It’s still there, but none of the countries that bordered this country at the beginning of 1990 exist anymore show

This week we started out with a triple solve and ended the week with the only clue that went 1 out of 3. In between, two players got every FJ! right. The easiest clue for me was on Thursday. I’ve been a big fan of folk music since childhood. The only one I didn’t know was on Tuesday, but I learned something I had not realized before (that the correct response was the only American to win the Nobel Prize for Lit in the 1940s). Ordinarily, the hardest for me would have been Wednesday’s Classical Composers, but I managed to come up with a lucky guess on that one.
