Final Jeopardy: International Business (9-26-16)
The Final Jeopardy question (9/26/2016) in the category “International Business” was:
This European company uses about 1% of the world’s lumber each year; it aims to make that 100% sustainable by 2020.
5x champ Seth Wilson returns today after winning $127,700 last week. His challengers in his 6th match are: Jocelyn Dorfman, from Fairfax, VA; and Dennis King, from Towson, MD.
Round 1 Categories: A Cloudy Category, The Prior World Leader, Invention & Innovation, Cosmetics, Sean Connery & Burt Reynolds, My Old “Pal”s
Jocelyn found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “A Cloudy Category” under the $600 clue. A dozen clues remained after it. She was in second place with $2,000 now, $2,200 less than Seth’s lead. She made it a true Daily Double and thought it was Rubens. That was WRONG.
Here is the cloud-filled “Empire of Light” by this Belgian surrealist.

Seth finished in the lead with $6.400. Dennis was second with $3,000 and Jocelyn was last with $1,000.
Round 2 Categories: U.S. Landmarks. Women Getting Physical, More Poetry, Please, The Singing “B”, Education, Last Letter, First Letter
Seth found the first Daily Double in “Singing ‘B'” under the $800 clue, with 5 clues still to go. In the lead with a runaway $20,000, he had $11,000 more than Dennis in second place. He bet $2,000 and he was RIGHT.

Seth finished in the lead with $25,400. Dennis was next with $10,600 and Jocelyn was in third place with $600.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS IKEA?
On page 23 of IKEA’s 2013 Sustainability Report, it says: “In FY13 we used around 13.97 million m3 of solid wood and wood-based board materials… around 1%* of the total wood used commercially around the world, making us one of the largest users of wood in the retail sector.”
On its Energy & Resources page, IKEA supplies information on how it works with forestry: “In addition to suppliers meeting our IWAY Forestry Standard, the volume of wood from more sustainable sources… increased to 50% in 2015. We are aiming for 100% by 2020.”
Jocelyn didn’t have a response so she went with The Washington Nationals. She lost her $100 bet and finished with $500.
Dennis got it right. He didn’t bet anything so he remained at $10,600.
Seth also got it. Alex was hoping he risked a lot and gave him a “boo hiss” when his $600 bet was revealed. Seth won the match with $26,000 even and now has a 6-day total of $153,700. A triumphant start to the week for Seth and a move up on the TOC list, too.
Two triple stumpers:
THE PRIOR WORLD LEADER ($1000) Before Angela Merkel (& we’ll even give you his initials– G.S.)
LAST LETTER, FIRST LETTER ($2000) The ancient mariner tells his tale to this person, on the groom’s side
2 years ago: Only ONE of the players got this FJ in “Agatha Christie”

When you see a player like Seth, of course you know he is talented. You also have to wonder if Siddharth could have otherwise put together a decent string of wins. Also, though, there was the luck of Dorcas not getting a fairly easy FJ to ponder.
idk… imo, Siddharth was lucky as it was. He wasn’t in the lead going into FJ in any of his games and still won twice
Similar to Ben Ingram in the ToC?
Not seeing any similarity there. l mean Ben had won 10 matches with some runaways before he got to that point, didn’t he?
Congrats to Seth for his sixth win! Now he won’t need to worry about working after winning 150000 dollars. Do you remember Andrew Moore and Ben Ingram’s totals when they were 7 and 8 time champs on jeopardy?
@Lou, their totals are on this 2014 ToC page. Ben Ingram’s 8x total was $176,534 and Andrew Moore’s 6x total was $138,100
I only came up with 5 triple stumpers from this game. The other 3 and the Sean Connery & Burt Reynolds” category are over here now
.
I was kinda hoping they would have my favorite Burt Reynolds film in there. “The End” (1978). So funny
VJ, would you be able to post the first 2 clues in the Cloudy category? Thanks.
Sure Rhonda,
($200) Cloud computing holds onto your data with vast arrays or “farms” of these computers that process requests
($400) A 1920s musical urges never to be dismayed, but to “Look for” this whenever “a cloud appears in the blue”
Thanks again, VJ, for always coming through So very appreciated!
VJ, do you recall what the answer was to the cloud computing clue?
It was servers, Rhonda. Dennis got it after Jocelyn offered supercomputers
Thanks again, VJ.
Wow! Seth passed Hunter on the TOC list.
Leena, your prediction may come true. Seth is on a roll playing his way and no one else’s. The heck with conventional wisdom he shows.
Congrats Seth. Continue to do it your way. I like how it pays off for you.
