WHAT IS LE FIGARO?

Le Figaro is a daily French newspaper, (obviously) named after the title character of Pierre Beaumarchais’ 1778 play “The Marriage of Figaro.” Le Figaro’s motto is: “Sans la liberté de blâmer, il n’est point d’éloge flatteur” which means “Without the freedom to criticise, there is no true praise.” It is from Figaro’s monologue in the last act of this play, that was adapted into an opera by Mozart in 1786.

Beaumarchais was also the author of the earlier play “The Barber of Seville.” That play was adapted into an opera by Rossini in 1816.

Emily came up with Charlie Hebdo. She lost her $8,000 bet and finished with $200.

Lori went with Punch. She bet and lost it all.

Dave got it right. He bet $2,500 and won the game with $28,300. Dave Pai is the new Jeopardy! champ.

We don’t know, Tanasha. Try looking up your local station’s Facebook and/or Twitter to see if they gave any explanation for that.

I’m hoping that Dave Pai becomes the first 3+ time champion in a month.

  3. Lou says:

I think Dave might actually be the person to break the leader curse with his playing style. Was Lori thinking of Punch and Judy written from 1966-1967? Overall I think this was a great game so far.
