    I see it now! JPY=Jeopardy
Thanks for that. I love classical music, but it’s interesting to see how some contestants will avoid such categories as long as they can.

  2. Gerald says:

Does anyone know the significance of the “WJPY Classical Radio” category. I live in Canada and have never heard of it, but a Google search of “WJPY” turns up practically nothing. Surely an active radio station would at least have a basic website.

    • VJ says:

They must have made up those call letters then, Gerald. What they stand for, I could not begin to guess.

    • Richard Corliss says:

WJPY Classical Radio used to be in Seaford, Delaware. It’s now called WSUX (AM) Radio.

    • Jacob Ska says:

Isn’t WJPY just the writers trying to be clever using a short abbreviated version of “Jeopardy?” JPY=JEOPARDY. That’s what I thought given the silliness of the clues. The contestants didn’t seem to like the category and I don’t blame them.

Btw, I agree with Cece about Sameer. I hope he wins again Monday.

  3. Cece says:

I was annoyed when they refused Sameer’s “careen” response; I’m glad they reversed it. Happy he won—I was rooting for him.

    • VJ says:

I was rooting for Sameer, too, Cece. And, of course, he absolutely won my heart with that Mr. Magoo response. I said “Oh, Sameer, you’ve done it again!” (Magoo’s famous line).

      • Richard Corliss says:

Is careen and veer the same thing.

        • VJ says:

@Richard, they’re not exactly the same thing. Careen is generally used in a wilder sense of swerving then veer. I don’t use either word much, if at all, in my spoken vocabulary. Instead of careen, I would say “came (or went) flying at” and instead of “veer” I would just say “swerved”

    • Cece says:

There’s something very endearing about Sameer.OK, I gotta confess, the Mr. Magoo’s’ reference was lost on me, lol.

The first time I heard about Mr. Magoo was a few years ago when I read the saddest book ever (Borrowed Time), in which a guy who was turning blind from AIDS referred to himself as Mr.Magoo. So I looked that character up.

      • VJ says:

Magoo has always been one of my favorite cartoon characters. The actor who did Magoo’s voice was Jim Backus. I love his voice. Also loved the character he played on Gilligan’s Island, Thurston Howell, III, the millionaire.

  4. Josh says:

I thought today’s FJ was particularly difficult. There was absolutely nothing in the way of a hint to at least guide the players in the right direction of an answer, as there usually is in FJ. I actually came up with it after some time but I’m a sports fan and relatively knowledgeable about golf. I’m impressed that it came to Julissa albeit too late. I think they could have given the players golf as a hint, or maybe even just say something about the fact that he’s left handed, and it still would have been a challenging question.

    • JP says:

I thought it was a very difficult clue as well, but I think the fact that you got the correct answer, and that one contestant did as well, albeit too late, shows that there were sufficient hints. “Individual” rules out all team sports, leaving you with tennis, golf, boxing, and a few others (that actually make national news consistently). But among individual sports, golf is the only one I can think of that a 50-year-old can continue to compete on a level basis with 20-year-olds.

That’s as far as I got, but Phil seemed obvious as soon as I saw the answer.

      • VJ says:

I agree, JP. I figured it was a golfer based on the age. Alas, the only two golfers I could name off the top of my head before today’s show are Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer so I had zero chance of getting that.
        🤣🤣

    • Howard says:

A golf junkie like me knew that one in a heartbeat. Also knew that Mickelson makes more $$ than any golfer not named Woods. Mostly from endorsements. Last I heard he was making a good $40-50M a year. Just turned 50 in June and can also play on the Champions (senior) tour.

  5. Dal Higbee says:

I hope the material becomes easier, and we get a 3 or more Time Champion, in the future.

  6. aaaa says:

They didn’t accept Phil when Julissa completed it. Completing it would have won her the game. I got $10K in Triple Stumper money and got FJ! and would have won the game from the fourth podium, for the second time in the last 10 shows.

    • JP says:

We all bow down in worship at your incredible intellect.

    • Howard says:

I’m right there with you. Decent players tonight, who knew many I didn’t (especially those pesky TV dramas, of which I knew one), but they left a LOT on the table. Bartered Bride; The Matchmaker; deem; meek; Merlin; hatch; Antwerp; St Louis; Supreme Court. And FJ also a pushover for this diehard sports fan. The GOATs would have lapped those up like a cat drinking milk from a saucer.

  7. rhonda fusaro says:

VJ, I thought of you on that “All Things Belgian” DD!

  8. Ismael Gomez says:

We end this week with another triple stumper.

  9. Dal Higbee says:

    Would you accept just Phil?

  10. Lou says:

Well. I can see that none of the players are golf enthusiasts since they missed out on Phil mickelson. But as I checked Jaromir Jagr plays hockey and not golf. He had a strong 22 game season but his contract was terminated in 2018. Not sure what Alyssa was thinking choosing him. But I loved that Doc magoo response. VJ have you watched or played golf previously? Nbc still airs the game on that network.
