WHO IS RINGO STARR?

Ringo Starr gained international fame as the drummer of the Beatles, the British band that took the world by storm in 1964. Starr was born as Richard Starkey on July 7, 1940 in Liverpool, England. After an appendectomy at age 6, Ringo developed an infection that hospitalized him for a year. In 1953, he contracted tuberculosis, which he later blamed on industrial conditions in his Liverpool neighborhood. He discovered his love of and talent for playing the drums while he recovered during a 2 year stay in a sanitarium.

An interest in skiffle music led Ringo to join a band a few years later. In 1962, he replaced Pete Best as the Beatles’ drummer. Ringo was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: as a Beatle and individually. In 2018, he became Sir Richard Starkey when he was knighted by Prince William.

Hilary went with Necromancer. She lost her $304 bet and finished with $496.

Mark got it right. He bet $4,567 and finished with $18,367.

Evan had Mick Fleetwood, but crossed him out in favor of Ringo. He added $3,000 to his score and won the game with $20,200. At the end of the first week of Season 41, Evan Suttell is the new Jeopardy champ.

When Mark didn’t wager for the lead with his DD, I knew what would happen in FJ, and it did. He didn’t wager enough, and lost. Evan didn’t either, not at least Evan didn’t use some cutesy number.

I predict Evan will get caught at least once by “not in the form of a question”.

I was 2/3 on DD and got FJ. Well over half of the TS came my way, also.

No matter, congrats to Evan. Hope he can get a run!

First of all, congrats on getting 2/3 DDs & all those TS.
OK, so Mark didn’t bet enough on the last DD to take the lead. He was $4700 behind but wagered $2100. Had he wagered, say, $5K, he’d have had a temp lead, but as the game played out, he entered FJ down by $3400, so theoretically he’d still have trailed even with a $5K DD.

Now to FJ: I agree that Evan totally under-wagered and got away with it. He was more or less committed to wagering $10401 in case Mark doubled. Mark trailed by $3400, and his only real hope of winning was betting $3401 or more, and Evan missing FJ. So $4567 was goofy but not a bad wager. In hindsight, because of Evan’s unusual wager, Mark could have won with a hefty wager, but I can’t fault him for not guessing Evan would wager so little.

FJ easy, at least for this old fool. Not sure there are any other drummers who’ve been knighted (Phil Collins and Charlie Watts were not).

Sometimes players’ foibles and idiosyncrasies get to me. Mark had a distinctive bowling motion every time he tried to ring in.

Once again, 2/3 DDs and nearly all the stumpers did me in. Knew the new name of Fiat Chrysler. The category S-S made it that much easier.

Glad Evan won. I like those sharp young players, especially when they know stuff from my early years.

  3. Rick says:

I did well in the game, and was on the right track in FJ. Actually, I went for Paul McCartney as I was unsure if Ringo Starr was ever knighted. Anyways, even if Hilary’s response was correct in FJ, I doubt that Ken would have credited her since she was still writing after the time was already up.

Well, that was an amusing game. At one point, I thought Mark was going to leap over the podium, and I loved Hilary’s responses when she blanked out. Urf!
