Final Jeopardy: Disneyland (7-4-16)
The Final Jeopardy question (7/4/2016) in the category “Disneyland” was:
This attraction was originally built for the New York World’s Fair in 1964, with proceeds going to UNICEF.
New champ Zach Klitzman won $37,601 last Friday. In his second match, he takes on these two players: Justin Lucas, from Reston, VA; and Liz Hedreen, from Kirkland, WA.
Alex Trebek wished everyone a Happy Fourth of July and we do, too.
Round 1 Categories: Show Your College Colors – Rhyme Time – State Capitals – Animal Young – A Shakespeare”M” Category – NASCAR Technology
Zach found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Animal Young” under the $1,000 clue. There were 5 clues left after it. He was in the lead with $4,600, $200 more than Justin in second place. He made it a true Daily Double and took a guess with a donkey. That was WRONG.
It’s the only animal native to the United States that has a baby called a joey. show
Justin finished in the lead with $4,800. Liz was second with $4,400 and Zach was last with $2,000.
Round 2 Categories: Catherine the Great – Reno 411 – 18th Century Art – More Power to Them – Title Pairs – The “I-T” Department
Zach found the first Daily Double in “Catherine the Great” under the $1,200 clue on the 4th pick of the round. In third place with $2,400, he had $3,600 less than Liz in the lead. Undaunted, he made it a true Daily Double again and, this time, he was RIGHT.
2 wars with the Turks gave Cathy control of the north coast of this sea from the Kerch Strait to the Dniester River. show
Justin found the last Daily Double in “More Power” under the $1,200 clue. He was in the lead with $14,800 now, $6,000 more than Liz in second place. He bet $4,000 and he was RIGHT.
It’s the source of power for the submarine USS Jimmy Carter. show
Justin finished in the lead with $19,600. Liz was next with $10,800 and Zach was in third place with $6,000.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS “IT’S A SMALL WORLD”?
Travel Guide has 20 Facts about “It’s a Small World.” No. 2 says the ride was originally called “PEPSI-COLA Presents WALT DISNEY’S ‘It’s a Small World’ – A Salute to UNICEF and all the World’s Children.” On Mouseplanet, Wade Sampson provides a history of the attraction that includes what Pepsi-Cola had to do with it.
For celebrity watchers: DisneyCelebs is a Twitter account devoted to celebrity sightings at Disneyland.
Zach started out with Space Mountain. He crossed it out and quickly scribbled the right response. It was accepted so his $5,007 bet was good. He finished with $11,007.
Liz got it right, too. She bet it all and finished with $21,600.
Justin had Space Mountain. He lost his $2,001 bet and had $17,599 left. That made Liz the new Jeopardy! champ.
Three stumpers from the match:
RENO 411 ($1600) Filmed in Reno, the movie “The Misfits” was the last picture for this “Gone with the Wind” star
TITLE PAIRS ($2000) In short order, ex-con Al Pacino falls for waitress Michelle Pfeiffer in this 1991 film
THE “I-T” DEPARTMENT ($1000) This lake in Minnesota is the main source of the Mississippi River
Grigory strikes again: This $2000 clue in “Catherine the Great” was the very first one Zach picked in DJ. “Catherine’s lover, he reputedly created fake villages for her tour of Ukraine.” We were talking about him in the comments last October when they had a clue with a picture of him.
2 years ago: NONE of the players got this FJ in ““Government”
“Features” at the website of this agency include “Protection”, “Investigations” & “Know Your Money”. show

@Jacob, The clue did mention GWTW but didn’t specify man or woman. Out of curiosity, I looked up the last film for the other 3
Olivia de Havilland (Miss Mellie) is still alive. She just turned 100 years old last Friday. (Bless her heart). She last appeared in “The Woman He Loved” (1988)
Vivien Leigh (Scarlett) – her last film was “Ship of Fools” (1965). There have been a lot of clues on the novel but J-Archive has this one from 1994 in Novel Films ($400) Vivien Leigh’s last film, it was adapted from the Katherine Anne Porter novel of the same name
Leslie Howard (Oh Ashley, Ashley) his last film that he actually had a role in was “Spitfire” (1942). Then he had 2 voice only parts. To my surprise, they don’t have any clues on how he died in a plane shot down by the Germans in 1943.
No one knew Clark Gable!
Who?
Oh, Eric!
Oh, Rhett!
@Rhonda, the movie was not that big of a hit. If they were asked about GWTW they would have known imo.
Btw, I did not recognize Bill Harrah’s photo. Never knew what the man looked like. Perhaps, because I never cared.
The joy of seeing the smiles on our kids faces at Disneyland in the late ’60s going through It’s a Small World was priceless. Many years later even though they are grown and have their own careers & families that joy still lingers in our hearts about our children’s excitement.
Besides the clues I included in the recap and a couple in the Rhyme Time category I put up, there was only one other that the players didn’t get: The $2000 clue in the Reno 411 category: The car that won the 1908 New York to Paris auto race is at the museum housing this late casino owner’s auto collection.
It had an image of the car and an image of the late casino owner (can’t find same img).
@Jacob — another instance where one player’s wrong answer includes the right one was in the 2nd round in the I-T category: ($1600) Even without a “re”, this verb means to say something again & again & again &…. (when Zach left the “re” in)
VJ, that was a no brainer. Zach repeated re which was already in the clue. I knew that would be negged. Btw, a stay at home mom wins again. Good for her.
Space Mountain?
Zach must be kicking himself about that first Daily Double, though.
