2nd day in a row a potential long-term champ got upended. Dean took control at the start, Grace hung in there the best she could, Jennifer was a non-factor (“private” for a 5-letter cadet and “opal” for a natural or cultured gem didn’t help her). But the DDs were too much for anyone to overcome. Grace wagered foolishly on Final in a lock game and cost herself a $3000 2nd-place prize. Dumb.
I had no clue on Final. 3rd DD was a cinch, didn’t know the others. Thought for sure someone would figure out the SVB bank and the company owned by Southland Corp. Guessed right on the fossil-hardening process.
The FJ from 2 years ago reminded me of a favorite “Far Side” cartoon. An aged Lone Ranger is sitting in his rocker, reading an Indian-English dictionary. He says something like “What the hey? ‘Kemo sabe’ means “horse’s rear end'”.
Howard, I thought Grace made that final bet deliberately so Jennifer could win second place.
That extra $1000 didn’t mean much to Grace when she already had $32K.
If that’s true, she’ll rethink that next spring when she gets hit by California income tax on top of federal tax.
How much of that $1,000 will be left after income and federal taxes?
Two days in a row of champs that I thought had staying power only to run into a bigger buzzsaw
Dean is our third new champ this week also nailing the biggest payday of the week so far. Dean will get to defend his title in tomorrow’s Season 42 penultimate game. Whoever wins tomorrow’s game gets to close out Season 42 as the defending champion.
