Today’s Final Jeopardy question (7/19/2019) in the category “States’ Governors” was:

It’s the only state to have had 4 female governors, 3 of whom served consecutively between 1997 & 2015

New champ Nathan Kaplan, a math professor from Los Angeles, CA., won $19,600 yesterday. In Game 2, he is up against: Kathleen O’Shea, a PR content manager from Chicago, IL; and Jason Zuffranieri, a math teacher from Albuquerque, NM.

WHAT IS ARIZONA?

Arizona has had the most female governors as of this date, namely these four: Rose Mofford, Jane Dee Hull, Janet Napolitano and Jan Brewer. If you sort Wikipedia’s list of female governors by state, you will find that Kansas is next with three. Texas had a female governor three times, but that is because Ma Ferguson served two non-consecutive terms.

There was a whole category on female governors in the 5/28/2018 game called ” The State She Governed,” including a Daily Double.

Nathan came up with Washington. He lost his $3,264 bet, leaving him with $6,336.

Jason got it right. He added $1,000 to win the game with $26,600. He is the new Jeopardy! champ. We’ll be seeing him at the first podium on Monday.

3 smart people didn’t know that Solomon pairs with Sheba?

Nathan makes me nervous with his buzzer action. I went outside to rake up some magnolia leaves.

    • VJ says:

The buzzer clicking doesn’t really bug me. I just turn the volume down and turn on the captions. The inability to stand still is far more distracting.

Next week is the 35th season finale of Jeopardy. Can Jason build up even more and become the last champion of the season? You’ll never know what will happen, but this has been a rollercoaster ride. The All-star Games, a Teachers’ Tournament, the legend of James Holzhauer, two Teen Tournaments, and two tiebreakers. What will Jason, the new champion, do in his first day of title defense in the final week?

  5. William Weyser says:

Honestly, I thought that after appearing on 4 different game shows, Nathan Kaplan would go on a long run on this show, but as proven by running into a buzzsaw, and getting creamed by that buzzsaw, that never materialized. However, the good news for Nathan is that, unlike 500 Questions, Nathan was sent home with some money on this show. As I said yesterday, Nathan Kaplan appeared on 500 Questions, and defeated Monica Thieu, the 2012 JEOPARDY! College Champion, who made it to 53 Questions, and won $28,000, but because he lost to Ryan Chaffee, and was unable to complete his 1st round, he couldn’t be sent home with any money. At least, Nathan had a lot of fun on this show, and being sent home with some money on JEOPARDY! is better than being sent home with no money on 500 Questions, only if you don’t complete your 1st round.

Today this was a clue in “The Real Movie Person” ($800) Sister Helen Prejean tweeted, “Let’s clear this up: my story is” this film, “Not The Walking Dead!”

  7. Lou says:

Kathleen is dismissed and she couldn’t get any rhythm. But I hope Jason can build up his streak of wins and hopefully earn a spot in the toc. Congrats to Jason on his win. Let’s make the final week of jeopardy the best. By the way is there a rock called magenetite that even exists VJ?

    • VJ says:

Yeah, Lou, according to wikipedia, it’s a rock mineral, “the most magnetic of all the naturally-occurring minerals on Earth.”

      Great game for Jason. Congrats!

Next Friday is the Season Finale of 35th season on Jeopardy. Kathleen was up and down and couldn’t get things going and unfortunately this is the 18th contestant that he or she won’t be able to play in Final Jeopardy because they finished with $0 or negative score. Congrats to Jason, a new champion with $26,600.
