WHAT IS “THE VELVETEEN RABBIT”?

“The Velveteen Rabbit” or “How Toys Become Real” was the first children’s book by British-American author, Margery Williams. First published in book form in 1922, the story of the stuffed rabbit who wanted to become real is Williams’ most popular work, although she wrote many more children’s stories. As you will see in the above video, the quote in the clue comes from the Velveteen Rabbit’s conversation with the Skin Horse, who knows all about “How Toys Become Real”. The Skin Horse got his own book in 1927.

“The Velveteen Rabbit” has been adapted to stage and screen many time in musical, live and animated versions. A new animated film from Storybook Studio was originally scheduled for release in 2022, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the book’s publication. The release was delayed due to production problems and the film is now due out around Easter 2023.
