The popular musical “Wicked” was based upon Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel ” Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West”, a different look at the Land of Oz told from the perspective of Elphaba, who is the Wicked Witch. Besides “Son of a Witch” (2005) and “A Lion Among Men” (2008), Maguire wrote a 4th sequel in 2011, “Out of Oz.”

    The “Wicked” song: “I have been changed for good” was used on Wheel of Fortune to celebrate Mark Corwin’s life and legacy after his death.

  2. Louis says:

    Congrats to Wes once again, so I can see that he learned from Josh Hill when he was here previously. He has to stay strong for tomorrow’s game because I predict that we might get two more streakers this month before the six week break. Also VJ does wicked remind you of the wizard of oz? If so what similarities can you infer from those musicals? And John, what sort of musicals did you see in the past?

    • VJ says:

      @Lou, well, I guess Wicked reminds everyone of the Wizard of Oz since many characters are the same. I will always love the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz. “Put ’em up. Put ’em up.” 😀

      I looked up Google Earth and it seems that was introduced in 2001 and it was Google Maps that was introduced in 2005 so yeah, they had to give that to Stel. (I looked up what his nickname could be short for, too, and came up with Stelios).

      • John Christian Ambion says:

        Yeah, and one of the cast members of that musical is the lovely Idina Menzel, who sang “Let It Go” from “Frozen”.

    • John B./I. says:

      @Louis
      I am not into musicals really, so “My Fair Lady” was pretty much it. That was ’80 in London, so I was 21 and HAD to go. Harrison, Andrews et al. were long gone, so I was not that impressed. I saw the movie later, with Harrison and Hepburn. If I have to sit through long stretches I preferred classical music and was choosing very carefully re: program and performers. If I HAVE to watch a musical I wait(ed) for the movie, there you can hit “pause”……

  3. John B./I. says:

    First of all, congratulations to TR. Everything was covered from o to 3, but you were the only one who got it.
    Also congratulations to Wes for his third win and making it to the ToC list- barely. #15, eliminating Emily Milan (45.001) We still have 7 three game winners on the list and Scott at # 9 with 78.401, even Ali with 65.400 at #10 seem pretty safe, with the summer break coming up and games not resuming until September (or late August?) unless the ToC is ppd till they have only players who won at least 4 games. But that could take a while. J would need at least 7 more 4 game winners and the clock is ticking.
    @JJ and again @VJ:
    Thanks for the congrats, got lucky with the dates and figs too :):):)
    I am curious if Wes can make it 4 wins tomorrow and thus practically be guaranteed a place in the ToC??
    The only consolation I have is that “The Lion King” came up….but that does not count. Well, tomorrow is another day for Wes and me! At least we did not go 0/9…THAT would have been a bummer!

  4. Richard Corliss says:

    This eliminates Emily Milan from the Tournament of Champions Tracker.

    • John B./I. says:

      Yes, and Wes is at a precarious #15….. needs to win one more game to be safe.
