    Happy Father’s Day Tomorrow!

  2. Howard says:

I’m a father to 5 adult children, so thanks for all the good wishes.

Mine was very smart, knew all the classics from high school, but never went to college. He could have gone for free on the GI Bill, but had to go to work instead.

When I was 11, he wrote down a quote from “Hamlet” for me that made little sense at the time, but it’s since become my guiding principle. “This above all, to thine own self be true.”

When I saw “European,” Kafka came to mind right away for some reason, but the quote threw me off and I went with Conan Doyle.

Wow, Howard. It sounds like you had a great dad. We have 3 adult children but as my better half puts it they’re “grown and gone.” As empty nesters we travel a lot. Their careers have taken them to different places far from home (2 females & 1 male) but thanks to Zoom we still “see” each other. Happy Father’s Day Howard.

  3. Darius Scott says:

Happy Father’s Day to all of those dads out there!

  4. Lou says:

Happy father’s day to everyone of my friends’ fathers out there especially my own. My dad will always be a big influence in my life as he also taught me how to fish and become a man and learn to respect other people. Congrats to emily on her second win despite not getting that daily double in the second round.

This final was not familiar to me as I never read any novels from Kafka. My guess was Agatha christie. I remember in one of charles dickens novels that also used a similar phrase dead as a doornail. Did you get this one VJ or did you also went with Arthur Conan Doyle?

    • VJ says:

I got it, Lou, once I realized the significance of “it” but it took me longer than 30 seconds.

I hope all of you great dads out there have a wonderful Father’s Day.

Special comforting thoughts to Alex Trebek’s children. (Their first without him)

  5. Jacob Ska says:

I’m loving these scores that Emily has run up these past two days. Haven’t seen that in a long time. A big congratulations Emily.

Happy Father’s Day to all the people who post here to whom it applies. If you’re not a father, Happy Father’s Day to your father. My dad was a big influence in my life. He taught me how to fish, how to be a man, and to always respect others.
