Today’s Final Jeopardy question (4/22/2021) in the category “Continental Geography” was:

3x champ Mike Nelson, an actor orig. from Chesterton, IN, has now won $55,000. In Game 4, the challengers are: Monica St. Dennis, a librarian from Alexandria, VA; and Kelly Donohue, a bank examiner from Winthrop, MA.

Mike found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Islands in the Group” under the $1,000 clue on the 12th pick of the round. He was in the second place with $2,000, $600 less than Kelly’s lead. He bet $1,000 and didn’t know so he was WRONG.

Mike finished in the lead with $4,800. Monica and Kelly both ended the round with $3,800. No clues went uncovered.

Round 2 Categories: Premiere Episodes – Mythological Idioms – Known by Their Initials – Fictional Pickers – Rather Odd Numbers – “A” Place in History

Mike found the first Daily Double in “Mythological Idioms” under the $1,200 clue on the 19th pick. He was in the lead with $9,600 now, $200 less than Monica in second place. He bet $2,500 and guessed “Hellenic.” That was WRONG.

Kelly finished in the lead with $18,000. Monica was next with $13,400 and Mike was in third place with $9,900. No clues went uncovered.

ALL of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS THE HORN OF AFRICA?

From byjus.com: “The North-Eastern region of the African continent including the countries of Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Somalia is known as the Horn of Africa since the group of countries form a horn-like landmass over the peninsula. A good way to remember the group is as S-E-E-D-S.” Please note that although the clue does not include Sudan, it appears that different parts of the world include one or more countries that I think of as part of Eastern Africa in the Horn of Africa. Also, some sites lump the 4 countries in the clue in with Eastern Africa.

Furthermore, there is a comment on the above YouTube video from someone in Africa stating that Somaliland and Somali are two different sovereign states. So even if you don’t include Sudan, you could still work with S-E-E-D-S if you recognize Somaliland!

Mike bet $3,501 and finished with $13,401.

Monica bet $13,000 and finished with $26,400.

Kelly bet $8,801 and won the game with $26,801. Kelly Donohue is the new Jeopardy! champion.

What a joy to finally see a triple solve on a fj clue. Excellent contestants imo. Close match and Anderson Cooper’s charity got a fairly good additional sum of contributions. I liked Monica’s playing style. She was very smart and all three players squelched some of my recent pessimism. Although the two DD doubles that were incorrect kind of rained on the parade though.

Well at least all three got final jeopardy despite the two daily doubles not being so nice to mike today. Overall I’d say he played well but didn’t get the fourth win. So let’s hope Kelly can do it hopefully. Somaliand isn’t someplace I would visit, but I prefer Aghluas since it is right in South Africa and has a beach down there. Furthermore, Antiques Roadshow was something that I enjoyed watching in my youth, which I would like to see again in the near future. Great play by the contestants.

I recognize Somaliland as a place I don’t want to visit anytime soon.
