TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS “DEATH OF A SALESMAN”?
In Arthur Miller’s 1949 Pulitzer-winning play, the line in the clue is uttered by Willy Loman’s son, Biff, at graveside after Willy commits suicide. Biff’s brother, Happy, gets mad about it but Willy’s friend, Charley, steps in and tries to explain their father’s mindset: “Willy was a salesman. And for a salesman, there is no rock bottom to the life…. He’s a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine. And when they start not smiling back– that’s an earthquake.”

Mary thought it was “A Moon for the Misbegotten.” That cost her $14,000 and left her with $400.
Brendan got it right. He bet it all and doubled his score to $35,600.
Martin got it, too. He bet $17,001 and won the game with $35,601.

Not sure anyone smart enough to be on Jeopardy could have missed that FJ. Any play with death brings that play to mind.
Welp, it doesn’t mean she did not know it, Gary. What sometimes happens is a player thinks the obvious answer will be wrong because they expect FJ to be more challenging. . A cruel irony of the game, perhaps..
That was an unusual second Jeopardy board. It didn’t have the usual categories of History and Literature. Even the ‘Gold’ Music category was tough. Maybe the show created a weird board to trip up James in the event James was still around.
Well, that was a very competitive game. Sorry to see Brendan go but he did so well catching up there in the second round. A little more on the first DD and a little less on the last and things might have turned out differently.
And I’m not meaning to take anything away from Mary or Martin. They were both excellent. Congrats to Martin on the win.

A moon for the misbegotten is a play by Eugene O Neill and not Arthur Miller. Not really sure why Mary chose that. But still congratulations to Martin on winning the game and kudos to Brendan on a well played game. I really wonder if Mary got her authors confused VJ? I hope Martin can build a streak here.
