WHO IS SIDNEY POITIER?

Sidney Poitier, Oscar-winning screen legend, died at the age of 94 on January 6, 2022. Oprah Winfrey’s tribute to him on Instagram read “For me, the greatest of the ‘Great Trees’ has fallen: Sidney Poitier. My honor to have loved him as a mentor. Friend. Brother. Confidant. Wisdom teacher. The utmost, highest regard and praise for his most magnificent, gracious, eloquent life. I treasured him. I adored him. He had an enormous soul I will forever cherish. Blessings to Joanna and his world of beautiful daughters 🙏🏾”

“Great Trees” refers to “When Great Trees Fall”, a poem by another one of Oprah Winfrey’s mentors, Maya Angelou. It ultimately expresses the sentiment that we can all be better people because “they existed.”

Mandy thought it was John Lewis, congressman and civil rights activist, who died on 7/17/2020. She bet and lost the whole $4,800.

Steve went with Lewis, too. That cost him $2,000 and left him with $6,400.

Ryan wrote down “Donahue.” Mayim let him know that Phil Donahue is still alive. Ryan only lost $1,000 so he won this game with $17,000. His 12-day total is $226,300.

Not surprised about today’s game. Still Sydney Poitier was a true film legend and he will not be forgotten.

We start the week off with a triple stumper as today’s FJ was a tough one.
