Final Jeopardy: American Literature (5-28-15)
Today’s Final Jeopardy question (5/28/2015), in the category “American Literature” was:
Published a year later, “Good Wives” was a follow-up to this 1868 novel.
2x champ Dan Feitel has won $45,599 so far. Today he takes on these two players: Adrienne Onofri, from Queens, NY; and Ivan Tan, originally from Lexington, MA.
Round 1: Adrienne found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Islands in the ‘C'” under the $1,000 clue. She was in third place with $1,000, $3,200 less than Dan’s lead. She made it a true Daily Double and she was RIGHT.

Round 2: Adrienne found the first Daily Double in “1990s – 25 Years Ago” under the $800 clue. She was in third place with $5,000, $7,000 less than Dan’s lead. She bet $3,500 and she was RIGHT.

Adrienne found the last Daily Double in “Performers’ Autobiographies” under the $2,000 clue. Still in third place, she now had $12,500, just $3,900 less than Dan’s lead. She bet $3,200, and she was RIGHT.
“This Time Together: Laughter and Reflection” (2010) show
Dan finished in the lead with $20,000. Adrienne was next with $15,700 and Ivan was in third place with $15,200.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
“Little Women is a classic – if not the classic – girls’ book. Written just after the Civil War in response to a publisher’s demand for a novel that could appeal to young female readers, it was originally published as two books: Chapters 1-23 were issued in 1868 with the title Little Women, and, after the book became a sensational success, Chapters 24-47 were issued in 1869 with the title Good Wives. Today we read both sections together as Little Women, but it’s important to know that the book began in two pieces, because there’s more separating them than time. ” (Shmoop.com)
Ivan wrote down “The House of Seven Gables.” He bet and lost everything.
Adrienne got it right. She bet $14,701 and finished with $30,401.
Dan also got it right. His $19,999 bet brought him up to a whopping $39,999 as he won his third game. His 3-day total is $85,598.
During the chat, Dan talked about playing football on the ellipse near south entrance of the White House and having a couple of run-ins with somber members of the Secret Service when the President was using that entrance.

What was the last Psychology question/answer — about a musical term?
$2K (very last clue played in Round 2)
Musical term for a mental state in which someone is conscious of his actions but retains no memory of them.
Dan: What is a fugue?
Aside from the wagering issues, this was a very good game. Very few missed clues.
You can’t fault the players for missing Bvlgari perfume imo or even Red Door perfume.
The “friend”category was a little trouble for the players also…rife, rend. Other than this category and “perfume” category the contestants knocked it out of the ball park imo.
Great contestants.
They didn’t know Santa Catalina the island of romance romance romance romance #FourPreps
Yep. That was the only one I have missed in the “Island ‘C'” category in round 1. In round 2, Dan got zapped for saying “cat gut” instead of “gut.” Were there any other misses in round 2 that I missed?
I was surprised only 1 miss in round 2. Perhaps, I omitted something.
This was a great game. And Dan won his 3rd game — I know you hate when they lose on the 3rd game, VJ. 🙂
Although Ivan missed FJ, he was a very solid player. And Adrienne, after overcoming her nervousness in the first round, went to battle as well.
And you hate when they lose on the 4th, right? Or are you jinxing Dan for tomorrow? :):)
I don’t think there were any others in Round 2. Gee, I would really like to know if either of the guys knew that Carol Burnett DD.
No, I don’t mind they losing on the 4th (and no, I’m not jinxing Dan, lol!) But if they make 4 games, then I hate when they lose on the 5th. 🙂
It’s because in the past, whenever a contestant won 5 times and lost on the 6th game, Alex always said: “I’ll see you in the TOC.” 🙂
What is Kuwait is wrong. The correct response is Kuwait City.
they had “this city” in the question (or answer), so saying Kuwait was saying Kuwait is “this city”
Yes, the way the clue was phrased,”same-named country” the answer HAD to be Kuwait, since the country is not Kuwait City. Sloppy phrasing.
I would say this game was more lost by Adrienne, due to poor wagering risks, than won by Dan.
I agree, to get all three dds and still lose is inexcusable.
And a FJ. Right!
Wow! Congrats Dan. Another TOC qualifier. Good game.
@Jacob Congrats to you too on your correct prediction.
Thanks.
Congrats for your prediction. Peculiar wagering by Dan. Everything, then nothing, everything again….well, it paid off (again).Congrats to Dan!!
P.S. The first 2 DDs were ridiculously easy, but at least we had 50,900 before FJ today, a vast improvement over the past 2 days.
Thank you. You do not want to miss seeing this game. One of the few good ones recently.
HAS to be better than the last 2 games, just judging by the numbers. And that pediatrician in “anatomy”…you gotta be kidding!!
