TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK?

The first 12 sites designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1978 included 2 from the USA: Mesa Verde National Park & Yellowstone National Park. If you have the time and the interest, you can learn a bit about all 12 sites in this video.

The 12 sites actually came from 7 countries. One site was designated the first site when a country had 2 sites and Yellowstone got that honor for the USA. See Wikipedia for the list showing the 6 other sites designated first (F).

Jim got it right. He bet $12,000 and finished with $25,000.

Miles drew a blank. He lost $10,001 and was left with $5,999.

Judith also got it right, too. She bet $9,001 and won the game with $32,001. Judith Friedman is the new Jeopardy! champ.

Now that was a good game. Even before she took the lead, I was thinking that Judith was so likable and charismatic. That’s good on her that she won.

I was thinking Miles might have a shot at Second Chance, but I don’t know how missing FJ with no response will affect that calculus.

I was 3/3 on DD, but missed FJ. Yellowstone just, for the briefest moment, was in my mind, but blew away as quickly as possible. I went with Devil’s Tower, even as I recalled that that same response was an FJ several weeks ago.

  2. Howard says:

What a competitive contest! I guessed FJ right and thought all 3 DDs were on the easy side, along with several of the $2000 clues. Surprised Judith didn’t nail that first DD. It wasn’t readily guessable, though, you had to know it, same for the same-sex marriage state.

Gerald Ford was another president born under a different name.

    • Jason says:

Ulysses Simpson Grant, too. He was born Hiram Ulysses Grant, but there was some mix-up at West Point. I don’t recall specifics!

    • Rick says:

Well yes, the first DD was absolutely a shoo-in. I mean, how could anyone have flubbed that one?

      • VJ says:

I don’t think many people who were born during that president’s tenure would remember that fact about him, assuming they came across it somewhere along the line.

  3. Rick says:

What a splendid game, and a competitive one to boot. Congratulations to Judith for being the next Jeopardy champion! Well, I did quite well in the game with the FJ being an obvious giveaway.

  4. VJ says:

Congrats to Judith! Good show! Still, I was thinking it would really have been something if Miles was the one who got $10K from the Daily Doubles. Then he would have had $26K vs. Jim and Judith tied at $13K.

  5. Kevin Cheng says:

What a way to celebrate Memorial Day. All three players had three excellent scores making this a competitive match.
