WHO IS ALFRED DREYFUS?

In a move construed as a symbol of France’s commitment to “combat the recent surge in antisemitism” facing its Jewish community, French Army Major Alfred Dreyfus was posthumously promoted to the rank of brigadier-general in 2025, 131 years after his wrongful conviction for treason. The wheels of justice turn slowly in cases of injustice and what is known as “the Dreyfus Affair” is an extreme example of that.

In 1894, then Captain Alfred Dreyfus was framed for treason by a French military court on specious evidence. Publicly stripped of his rank in 1895, he was sent to France’s notorious prison colony, Devil’s Island, to serve a life sentence. Despite exculpatory evidence surfacing a year later, Dreyfus was not released from prison until 1899. He would not be cleared until 1906. See this timeline of the Dreyfus Affair. They have not added the brigadier general promotion yet and there is still an ongoing call to have Dreyfus’ remains transferred to the Pantheon that may be approved in the future.

Nikki had no response. She didn’t bet a sou so her score remained $400.

Brian went with Louis XVI. That cost him $267 and left him with $2,533.

Jamie got it right. He bet $25,200 and won the game with $56,400, for a 15-day total of $428,000.

Jamie sets the record of the highest daily double wager loss of 21,200. The previous record of the largest incorrect Daily Double wager is 15,600 during the All-Star Games on March 1, 2019. Jamie is now 100 bucks shy of Julia Collin’s winnings of 428,100. Jamie is now #11 in the all-time winnings and he is now the biggest money winner of Season 42 bumping Harrison Whitaker off and Jamie now has the highest payout of the season of 56,400.
