Final Jeopardy: World Leaders (4-16-15)

The Final Jeopardy question (4/16/2015), in the category “World Leaders” was:

On the occasion of this late leader’s visit to the U.S. in 2009, ABC News listed 112 various spellings of his name.

4x champ Alex Jacob has brought his winnings up to $109,401 this week. A win today will guarantee him a spot in the Tournament of Champion. His opponents are: Erin Steinhart, from Worcester, MA; and Dane Walker, from Flint, MI.

Round 1: Alex found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Ceremonies” under the $600 clue. He was in the lead with $4,600, $2,200 more than Dane in second place. He bet it all and he was RIGHT.

WHO IS MOAMMAR GADDAFI?

The original article from ABC News is no longer online; however, it was posted to the Phora Lounge a couple of months after it appeared in September of 2009, complete with all 112 spelling variations.

Erin wrote down “Gaddafi.” Her $3,400 bet brought her up to an even $10,000.

Dane spelled it “Khadaffy.” He bet $2,300 and finished with $11,300.

Alex thought it was (Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad, Iran’s 6th (and still alive) President. He lost his $5,000 bet but won the match with the remaining $20,000. His 5-day total is $129,401.

FJ Results: 4-16-15

During the chat, Alex told Trebek that he didn’t follow his doctor parents into the field of medicine because he wasn’t too keen on the sight of blood and “stuff like that.”

Alex was given 10, maybe even 11 seconds to answer the Round 1 daily double !!!!

That’s not Jeopardy! That’s Family Feud!

    well, 2 for 3.
    1.runaway for alex
    2.TWO correct

missed on alex giving one of the right answers. looks like he does not need a huge dd to get a runaway unless you consider 4.600 big, but it certainly helped.still put 16K between him and dane before fj. congratulations!

as a p.s.: he really makes it look easy, big dd or not. average for 5 games: almost 26K (25.880), not too shabby and if he wins another 5 or ten games he will take home money that can compare with a good placing in a poker tournament.

who knows? he may take j for 200 or even 300K. this guy seems to be for real, especially considering that he alone came up with the right fj yesterday, when it mattered and collecting over 37K in the process. so one correct fj only (when he needed it) in 5 games, but 4 runaways.amazing.
it will be interesting to see if he gets another fj right when it’s NOT a runaway.then we will see if yesterday was pure luck with becky missing. had she been right, alex would still have won though since he was right anyway. BUT it was his only correct fj answer so far and he needed it since becky wisely wagered only 2,101.

he could go on for 10,15 games or crash as early as tomorrow. at any rate the last 5 games were exciting to watch.i am really forward to how he will continue. win or maybe losing tomorrow , he makes each game interesting…

and if you consider his win yesterday as lucky, two austrian/german sayings come to mind:
Dem Tuechtigen gehoert die Welt = “the brave/bold one owns the world” and
Glueck hat der,der es verdient = “luck comes to those who deserve it”

we shall see how far his luck AND knowledge will take him. so far he WAS brave and bold when it came to DDs he felt comfortable with and knew when he had to tread carefully.the games with alex are certainly not boring and what more can we ask for?

Where does luck for in with the exception of a selection of a question (or rather an answer). This is an objective exam with strategy demonstrated more by Alex Jacob than any contestant I have ever seen on Jeopardy. Bottom line, you know it or you don’t. I happened to watch last Friday’s show, Alex’s first game. It was immediately obvious that there was something very unique about him; and, he was smart. It was really cool on Wednesday watching him jack his total for the day to 37K against his a tough and his toughest competitor. I have followed him every day. He is awesome to watch. He’s not a stiff nerd like many. He’s relaxed, cool and smart. How many 5-day totals are there in the history of Jeopardy that are this high?
