Ben found the first Daily Double in “One-Word Play Titles” under the $1,200 clue on the 3rd pick of the round. He was in the lead with $2,800, $1,800 more than Kat in second place. Ben made it a true Daily Double and he was RIGHT.

WHAT IS THE 8TH AMENDMENT?
On Constituting America, attorney Nathaniel Stewart explains the origin of the 8th Amendment: “Like many provisions of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, the protection against ‘cruel and unusual punishments’ prescribed in the 8th Amendment has deep English roots. The text of the 8th Amendment is taken almost verbatim from England’s Declaration of Rights of 1689, an indictment of King James II that reads rather like our own Declaration of Independence and accuses the king and his government of mistreating the people and subverting the law.”
Our 8th Amendment reads: “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.” The 10th clause of the 13 clauses in England’s Declaration of Right reads: “That excessive bail ought not to be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.”
The perjury part of the clue refers to a habitual liar named Titus Oates, whose perjury led to the execution of many innocent people. I’m not exactly sure if some people believed his punishment was “cruel and unusual” or if it was “cruel and illegal”.
Kat got it right. She bet it all and doubled her score to $10,800.
Laura went with the 4th Amendment. That cost her $2,801 and left her with $5,199.
Ben came up with the 7th Amendment. He lost his $999 bet but won the game with the remaining $16,001. Ben Chan is the new Jeopardy! champ.

Ben went for the early KO on that very gettable DD, but rebounded quickly and forced a runaway.
Laura stood like a statue most of the show until those show biz questions came up near the end.
5th Amendment against self-incrimination seemed right to me, but also a bit too obvious.
I thought it was the 5th Amendment as I focused on the word “perjury”.
Ben looks like a future TOC player, imo.
Hmmm…….I came up with the Fifth Amendment for FJ, but my mind was a little foggy today.
What a nice comeback for Ben. Despite losing 7000 on the daily double in the first round, he recovered very well from that huge misstep and goes on to dominate for the rest of the game.
