Final Jeopardy: American Rock Bands (3-5-21)
Today’s Final Jeopardy question (3/5/2021) in the category “American Rock Bands” was:
In 2020 their “Greatest Hits”, with an optimistic ’80s anthem, became only the third album to spend 600 weeks on the Billboard 200
New champ Jim Cooper, a screen writer from Pacific Palisades, CA, won $17,300 yesterday. In Game 2, he is up against: Laura Portwood-Stacer , an author & editor orig. from Livonia, MI; and Ann Mazzaferro, a high school English Drama teacher from San Andreas, CA.
This is Mike Richards’ last day of hosting. At the start of the show, he said it’s has been an incredible honor, truly humbling and a lot of fun to be able to keep the show going. At the end of the show, he said he was looking forward to the guest hosts but didn’t say who was next. My TV schedule shows 2 weeks of Katie Couric coming up.
Round 1 Categories: Broadway Musicals – Business & Industry – Text Message Abbrev. – Army Surplus – Navy Bases – Marine Biology
Ann found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Broadway Musicals” under the $800 clue on the 7th pick of the round. She was in the lead with $1,400, $1,000 more than Laura in second place. She had waited her whole life to say “Let’s make it a true Daily Double.” When she did, Mike Richards said “Yes! Give her a round of applause– it’s fun!” Unfortunately, she thought it was “Hot Mikado” and that was WRONG.
“The Morning Of The Dragon” was one of the songs from this Puccini-based Broadway musical. show
Laura finished in the lead with $6,400. Jim was second with $2,000 and Ann was last with $1,800. The $1,000 clue in “Navy Bases” stayed on the board.
Round 2 Categories: Bad Men & Robbin’ – Globetrotting – 3-Word Book Titles – Ryan Gosling Movie Roles – That’s So 2019 – It’ll All End in “X”
Laura found the first Daily Double in “That’s So 2019” under the $2,000 clue on the 10th pick. She was in the lead with $10,800 now, $7,600 more than Jim in second place. She bet $2,000 and she was RIGHT.
The discovery of Homo luzonensis, an extinct human species that lived in what’s now this country, was announced in April. show
Laura got the last Daily Double in “Bad Men & Robbin'” under the $800 clue, with 8 clues left after it. In the lead with $18,400, she had $12,200 more than Ann in second place. She bet $3,000 this time, and she was RIGHT again.
In 2005 4 thieves at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport made off with $118 million worth of these bound for Antwerp. show
Laura finished in the lead with a runaway $21,400. Jim was next with $9,200 and Ann was in third place with $6,600. The $2,000 clue in “Ryan Gosling Movie Roles” went uncovered, which was a crying shame. Jim was acing the category and if he got that clue right, it would have broken the runaway.
Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
In January 2020, Forbes reported that “Journey’s Greatest Hits is now just the third release of any kind in U.S. history to spend 600 weeks on the chart, and it follows in some truly giant footsteps. Both Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon and Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Legend have both passed that milestone as well….” According to SongFacts, the popular resurgence of the 1981 anthem “Don’t Stop Believin'” in the 2000s was due to the 2003 movie “Monster”, starring Charlize Theron as serial killer Aileen Wuornos: “In the movie, the song comes on when Wuornos and Selby Wall (Christina Ricci) are skating to it in a roller rink. They mention how they love the song, and as it builds, so does their passion, and they end up kissing outside the rink.” … Requests started pouring in to use the song in a variety of movies and TV shows, and soon another generation was familiar with the song.”
An old Daily Double: BROADWAY MUSICALS BY SONG ($1,400): “We’re Not Gonna Take It” & “Don’t Stop Believin'” (soundtrack)
Ann went with Aerosmith. She lost her $2,400 bet and finished with $4,200.
Jim got it right. He bet $1,213 and that brought him up to $10,413.
Laura was going for Twisted Sister, but ran out of time for the “r”. (Tell Laura I loved that.) She lost $2,000 and won the game with the remaining $19,400. Laura Portwood-Stacer is the new Jeopardy! champ.
2 triple stumpers from 3-WORD BOOK TITLES:
($1200) Don’t be a birdbrain! Take wing with this fable by Richard Bach that has a bird in its title
($1600) John Harmon is the title acquaintance in common in this Dickens novel

OCD… Remember when Amy tried to teach Sheldon patience? Lol…I understand the frustration of not finishing something…

Me too. So, Steve Moulds is the 1 champion that will take Brayden Smith’s place in the Tournament of Champions.
I found that too. It’s in the TOC tracker at jeopardy.com.
i hate it, i hate it, I HATE IT when time runs out and clues left on the board. in round 1 it happened because of meaningless blather about royalty and relaxation. in round 2 it happened because of over politeness: “can i have [entire category name] for [dollar amount] please?” OH PLEASE, leave your show-offy politeness off the stage. there’s a game to be played here, it’s serious business. you are not the star of the show, neither is the host. the only thing that counts is the clues.
I can understand your frustration, but how would the game be if it excludes the human element?
true Rick. but humans need to understand time cannot be wasted on frivolous words or gestures. like yesterday, jim cooper kept making these exaggerated sounds to get a laugh from the crowd. just for that im GLAD he lost today and couldn’t muster enough for his triplets’ college tuition. (i know im being really mean here : ).
I can understand your frustration. I too thought early on that the interviews were taking a bit too long tonight. Many years ago, I was on “Split Second” for three days. I believe it was the second day when they did some kind of a Happy Birthday tribute to someone before the game started, which eventually cost me $$ even though I won that game.
And when I was on Jeopardy, there were 4 clues left when the 2nd round ended. Didn’t know it till I looked up at the overhead scoreboard, but I needed to answer ONE MORE question to keep the champ from having a lock game. So it did me no good when I bet it all in FJ, got it right, and she bet $0 and flubbed it.
I think you’re overreacting, klm. That’s some pretty intense frustration over 2 clues not being shown! Look at it like the betting — this is something that will happen again and again on the show so why get mad about it?
Also, it’s only serious business for the contestants because they are the only ones that have something to win or lose. If some of them don’t take it seriously, why should the viewer get upset?
But Laura added three exclamation marks. So she must think it’s Twisted Siste !!!
Hi Jac, she had two question marks after her response, the second one of them without the dot under it. To me, it looked like she was still writing when time ran out.
It’s been almost a month since we had a five time champ so let’s hope Laura can get a string of wins going. And also, Journey is one of my favorite bands. I would have loved to see Jim acing that category on the Ryan Gosling Movies. We finish off this week with a couple of triple stumpers.
Mike did a great job guest hosting jeopardy so we shall see how the rest of the celebrities do.
For some reason I had a feeling Laura would win today and I’m glad she won and hopefully she will get final jeopardy on monday!
