Emily found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Funny Books” under the $1,000 clue on the 15th pick of the round. She was in the lead with $4,800, $1,800 more than Kevin in second place. She bet $2,000 and she was RIGHT.

Emily finished in the lead with $7,800 and Kevin was second with $4,800. At negative $800, Bryce was last. (I had to get my smelling salts at this point.) No clues went uncovered.

Kevin found the first Daily Double in “Native American History” under the $1,200 clue on the 5th pick. He was in 2nd place with $7,600 now, $3,400 less than Emily’s lead. He bet $2,400 and he was RIGHT.

Bryce got the last Daily Double in “English Drama That Ain’t Shakespeare” under the $2,000 clue, with 5 clues left after it. In third place with $8,000, he had $6,000 less than Kevin’s lead. He bet $6,000 and he was RIGHT.

Bryce finished in the lead with $16,800. Kevin was next with $16,000 and Emily was in third place with $12,600. No clues went uncovered.
NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
To promote tourism to New York in the 1970’s, Milton Glaser designed the “I Love New York” logo, often stylized with a heart. It goes along with the New York state slogan and anthem which is also “I Love New York.” If you have ever been on a visit to the city, you have most likely seen a lot of tourist shops with this design.
Following the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers in 2001, Glaser redesigned the logo to display a bruise and added the words “more than ever” to emphasize the pride many feel in New York City. The 9/11 Memorial & Museum also mentions that in the redesign “Glaser’s message extends beyond our city limits and is a symbol of our nation’s determination and resilience, now and then.”
Emily put down “Fed Ex.” She lost her $4,200 bet and finished with $8,400.
Kevin went with “the Peace Symbol.” That cost him $9,201 and left him with $6,799.
Bryce came up with “Johnson and Johnson.” He lost a big $16,000. That left him with $800 and made Emily Seaman the new Jeopardy! champion.

FJ clue was misleading. Why was it called a “bruise” ??
It appears the contestants are smarter than the clue writers imo. Two contestants correctly wrote down the names of companies that definitely have logos. “I Love New York” is a phrase which has a heart shape for the word “Love.” This is not indigenous to New York. Virginia uses the phrase “Virginia is for Lovers” with a heart shape. The heart shape is used in many phrases to substitute for the word “love.” Clue writers get your act together. Enough of these horribly written and misleading fj clues.
9/11 was 20 years ago which means the contestants were 20 years younger. How were they supposed to connect 9/11 to just New York when 9/11 adversely impacted on the entire world since it is considered the financial capital of the world? Lives lost that day were people from countries around the world who worked in NYC. The tragedy was not just felt in New York. It was a global tragedy and the clue writers need to wake up to this reality. Very poorly worded clue. Shame on you.

Cece, good point you make. I’m not buying what’s on the Internet that Glaser came up with what is referred to as a “logo, slogan, etc.” The heart shape has been around since the 14th century to represent love. Next we’ll try to be convinced that the guy came up with Valentine’s Day which has always used a heart shape. Yikes!
I agree with you. That clue gave me a headache, trying to use logic to come up with a logo of a company/business/institution, and the like. Sheesh..

I think that was an easy clue and made perfect sense. I didn’t get it but it literally shows appreciation for NY.

I don't often get the final but I got this immediately. I am from Connecticut.
I don’t remember the last time this slogan was used, I don’t even remember the addition to it after 9/11. It was used in commercials to promote tourism in the state way back in the 1980’s, “I love NY” was set to music as various places to visit were shown. Thinking of the commercials was the only way I was able to come up with the right answer. I doubt a lifelong NYer not of a certain age would have even heard of it.
Fact is, the I Heart design has been co-opted by t-shirt sellers for every place on earth and every name and thing you can think of plus some you can’t imagine, so idk why anyone nowadays would think the design was special to New York or connected to 911 unless they knew something about Milton Glaser.

I grew up in Queens many decades ago and although I certainly know the logo, I was clueless tonight.
I have visited New York, but I never ran across any of those shirts with that logo. Apparently, none of the contestants did either.
Hopefully by the time April comes, the leader curse will be broken. I mean this wasn’t that tough of a final jeopardy anyway as I have been to New York many times before with my family because of the Bronx Zoo, the MoMa and so forth. I was hoping everyone will know the slogan pretty well, but hopefully Emily can break the curse tomorrow if possible. March has been tough for the players to get a streak going since John Focht dominated in February This was a great game though. and I was hoping Bryce could have gotten a 90000 dollar payout today, VJ.
Well, I think it was a tough final and I have been to NYC many times myself. I even worked in the Empire State Building as a temp once and at MONY (they had a great employees’ cafeteria).
As you said, Lou, it’s a slogan, so maybe they would have had a better chance if that had been the category name but I still don’t see it.
I was living in the Tri-State area in NJ, half an hour from NYC when 9/11 happened and I don’t remember ever hearing about or seeing the “more than ever” edition of the slogan. I still remember NJ’s slogan though.

I’d love to tell you I’m feeling better. Sometimes I am feeling pretty good and am very hopeful that the bad pain will soon be over, but it’s kind of like the 3-game curse — I’m afraid to talk about it when I’m feeling better because I don’t know when I’m gonna get hit with a bad day.
Oh, man, what a game. After the bleak outlook in this morning’s chat, I tried to think of a way the players could get this FJ! till my head hurt and concluded that, even if Bryce was in the lead, this clue could takes him out because he bets big. Then, I was sitting here giving the right answers to the clues that were putting Bryce deeper in the hole. My kid was laughing at me when he didn’t get it! And I couldn’t see how he could come out on top Then he pulled it off in Round 2 and finished in the lead. Then the axe fell!
Ah well, at least like Susan, Bryce was paid well. Emily is an excellent player and I hope she gets paid well tomorrow.
Tough FJ as we end the month with a triple stumper.
Hopefully, April will break the “Anti-Good Month-ites” curse that me & my friend from Florida are still having.
