A warning on early episodes said this show “seeks to throw a humorous spotlight on our frailties, prejudices and concerns”

2x champ Michonne Omo, a staff attorney from Walnut Creek, CA, won $22,800 last week. In Game 3, she is up against: Kimberly Flynn, a writer & editor from Wayne, PA; and Vikram Prasad, a congressional aide from Washington, DC.

Michonne finished in the lead with $17,800. Kimberly was next with $16,400 and Vikram was in third place with $7,800.

WHAT IS “ALL IN THE FAMILY”?

The video shows the disclaimer that CBS ran before the debut of “All in the Family” on January 12, 1971. The quote in the clue continued: “By making them a source of laughter, we hope to show – in a mature fashion – just how absurd they are.” From GetTV: “With All In The Family, television began to grow up. The decade of primetime witches, genies, and talking horses was over, and the issues that drove dinner table conversation were now sitcom subjects…. All In The Family never suggested that we accept Archie’s prejudices, but it did remind us that those we disagree with can still be loving spouses, parents, and friends. And that’s a perspective that still resonates strongly today.”

Vikram thought it was “Fawlty Towers.” Alex said “that could fit the quotation but, unfortunately, it’s not the correct response. Vikram lost $7,000 and finished with $800.

Kimberly got it right. She bet it all and doubled her score to $32,800.

Michonne got it, too. She only bet $7,800. She finished with $25,600. That made Kimberly Flynn the new Jeopardy! champ.

Vikram started great the beginning and taking the lead then Michonne and Kimberly got rolling and he couldn’t get things going.

  2. Albert says:

Did anybody else have ‘Candid Camera’?

    • VJ says:

idk about anyone else, Albert, but everyone predicted a triple solve on Spoiler Talk this morning.

Prejudices > bigot > Archie Bunker

VJ, thanks so much for posting the info about GetTV, I’d never heard of it before and now I have a new channel to watch!

    • VJ says:

You’re welcome, Rhonda. By the way, I used to have that French card game.

      • Howard says:

Mille Bornes was huge around 1967. I still have mine. I played with my Dad often, and had a summer-long tournament with a couple of friends. (Such nerds!) I also have my Jeopardy home game from that same era (2nd edition). I won it during audience warmup from Don Pardo by knowing who the “It Girl” was. (Not bad for a 16-year old). I tried out for daytime Jeopardy that year (I was underage) and never got a call back.

For those of us of a certain age, the final tonight was a softball.

        • VJ says:

Wow, Howard, that’s really cool how you won that Jeopardy home game!

Back in the old days, I really liked the board game Careers. I got one from eBay about 5 years ago and had a lot of fun playing it with my son and his family.

  4. Lou says:

That was not a wise bet on michonne. She could have at least bet 12000 to cover Kimberly and win the game. I thought she had potential. Speaking of all in the family VJ, do you remember that opening song boy the way Glenn Miller played songs that made the hit parade? That was so memorable. Still we will never forget Jean Stapleton and Carroll o Conner. She was also in the Pocahontas sequel.

    • Scott Raiman says:

      Well said on all counts!

    • VJ says:

Maybe Alex Trebek’s remark “You’re all too young” made Michonne think the clue was going to be tough and she ought to hang on to most of her $$. That’s a tough way to lose, for sure.

Yes, I remembering the opening song, Lou. Still funny to watch.

    • Howard says:

Absolutely right. The leader virtually always bets enough to win by $1 or more. Considering that she got it right, Michonne likely will regret that choice for a long time to come (believe me, I speak from experience). She’d have cashed close to $33K tonight and returned tomorrow.
