TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS “HUT”?

In a 2018 NYT article “Hut! Hut! Hut! What?”, Joe Theismann told the New York Times that he started saying “hut” when he was 12 years old, and although he has said “hut” over 10,000 times during his football career, he has no idea what it means.

Much earlier, in 2009, linguist Ben Zimmer wrote a lengthy article on the significance of “hut” in football after participating in an NFL presentation on the topic. The short answer, Zimmer wrote, “is that the hut of the quarterback’s cadence (“hut 1, hut 2, hut 3…”) almost certainly comes from military cadences for marching, where hut is used to accent a syllable.” He credited WWII drill sergeants with popularizing “Atten-hut!” as a call to attention. However, he also looked at variations of the signal and other ways it is used.

Sinecio wrote down blue, just to write something, we assume. He bet and lost his whole $10,200.

David got it right. He bet $6,800 and finished with $22,000.

Jamie got it right, too. He bet $11,001 and won the game with $30,401. So Jamie finishes the week with a 6-day total of $162,203.

David should definitely get a Second Chance spot. Like Luke from Wednesday’s game, he put up a great fight against Jamie. Unlike Luke, however, David got FJ! right.
