Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS PETER PAN?

Neverpedia’s entry on Nina Boucicault notes that she “was the first person to portray Peter Pan, playing the role in the first production of Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up, which premiered on December 27, 1904, at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London.” Astonishingly, she was 37 years old at the time but looks much younger in the picture they have of her in the role. Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie created Peter Pan 1902.

Per IMDB, Nina got into movies 9 years later. She only had the lead role in one: 1935’s “Oh, What a Night”. The following year, she had a role in “Juggernaut”, a film that starred Boris Karloff.

Scott thought it was Mother Courage. He lost $5,598 and finished with $2.00.

Mira got it right. She bet $4,000 and finished with $14,600.

Dan came up with Pygmalion. He lost $9,101 and finished with $2,999. That made Mira Hayward the new Jeopardy! champ.

It’s been quite a week. Fellow Portlander Matthew wins 4 times impressively, loses to Dan from my childhood home in Queens, then he loses to Portlander Mira. I thought she’d long regret that Mayflower Charter boo-boo, but it worked out.

I immediately thought of Mary Martin in that harness, so it was a gimme.

Mira reminded me a tiny bit of Mattea, without the hand gestures. But I don’t see her lasting as long.

    • Jason says:

I thought of Mary Martin, too! And Sandy Duncan, so, I thought it was an easy one, too.

Mira can only be described by me as “cute”. I think she has a LOT more charisma than Mattea.

    • VJ says:

I think we can also describe Mira as very smart. I’m curious to see if she tries to correct or clarify her responses today. She did that at least twice in this game (on the amendment number clue and one of the autobiography clues)

  2. VJ says:

Cool coincidence: Nikki put this up for the quote of the day: Spaghetti can be eaten most successfully if you inhale it like a vacuum cleaner.

Then the person who said it was the correct response to the last clue in OSCAR-WINNING WOMEN:

($2000) She was home in Rome when Cary Grant called to let her know she had won Best Actress for “Two Women”

    • rhonda says:

That was quite a remarkable coincidence, VJ.

      • VJ says:

It was, Rhonda. Did you ever see “Two Women”? I saw it years ago, a powerful war drama. IMDB says it’s available for free on FreeVee. I am a little amazed at how many films that have won Oscars are freely available nowadays. I just watched “Oliver!” (1968’s Best Picture) a couple of days ago on HBO Max. I tried to get Julie to watch it with me (after I watched Willy Wonka with her), but she wouldn’t do it for love or money.

        • rhonda says:

I did see it many years ago, VJ, Powerful and dark.
Julie does have quite a mind of her own when it comes to some things.

  3. Rick says:

A seemingly tough FJ on the surface, but one could easily say that the clue “wearing a harness” was a dead giveaway. Unfortunately, I didn’t pick up on the clue so I missed the FJ.. Oh well, I’m glad that Mira got it right.
