WHAT IS THE LIGHTHOUSE AT ALEXANDRIA?
The Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World, was built on the Egyptian island of Pharos in the harbor of Alexandria to facilitate trade. During the day, a large curved mirror reflected the sun and a fire burned at night to safely guide ships into the harbor. The lighthouse went into service in 279 BC and guided ships for hundreds of years. By 1375, a series of earthquakes had entirely destroyed the famous structure. More Lighthouse Facts
Achilles Tatius was a writer who lived in Alexandria. His lone surviving work, “The Adventures of Leucippe and Clitophon”, is believed to have been written at the end of the 1st century. In it, he described the lighthouse as “the most remarkable and extraordinary structure upon which it rested; it was like a mountain, almost reaching the clouds, in the middle of the sea. Below the building flowed the waters; it seemed to be as it were suspended above their surface, while at the top of this mountain rose a second sun to be a guide for ships.” See more ancient descriptions of the lighthouse.
Justin came up with the Colossus of Rhodes. He lost $3,000 and finished with $600.
Lisa didn’t have a response. She lost $9,000, leaving her with $2,000.
Taylor also thought it was the Colossus of Rhodes. He lost $7,400 but won the game with the $8,200 he had left. Taylor is headed to the semifinals.
A triple stumper from each round:
AHHH, THE FRENCH ($1000) Barely over 5 feet tall but a giant in his field, this artist gave us “Au Salon de la rue des Moulins” in the 1890s

2 years ago: TWO of the players got this FJ in “Recent TV”

I got FJ, and used the “other” name – Pharos of Alexandria. However, 1/3 on DDs.
Yeah, Howard, I have to agree – Lisa was demonstrative.
Ouch, missed all the DDs and FJ. Best (?) I could come up with was Acropolis, “acro” meaning height. Justin never recovered after that first DD. It was a 2-person race the rest of the way.
Lisa’s facial contortions were just too much for me again. And boy, did she look glum after FJ ended.
Surprised no one knew the short French artist. Same with Joseph’s father and the law Ireland passed in 1997. And the trumpet blower–come on!
I did about average in the Jeopardy game tonight, but got the FJ (which was a dead give away).
Another tough final as we got another triple stumper.
