Emma found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Again” under the $400 clue with 7 clues left after it. Emma was in third place with $1,000, $4,000 less than Scott’s lead. Emma made it a true Daily Double and she was RIGHT.

The first use of “instant” this was during the 1963 Army-Navy football game show

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS GARRY KASPAROV -or- BRUCE PANDOLFINI?

Since I don’t really know much about “The Queen’s Gambit” (except that I didn’t want to see it), I watched a YouTube with the credit roll earlier today. Click on the above screenshot if you want to watch that. Garry Kasparov and Bruce Pandolfini are both listed as Special Consultants. Then I checked each man’s IMDB page and, if you click on their names, you will see they are both credited as special consultants on the same 7 episodes of “The Queen’s Gambit”.

As sometimes happens in these situations, only one of their names came up in Final Jeopardy! anyway and there was no mention of the other one so that’s all I have to offer by way of additional information today.

Ben got it right with Garry Kasparov. He chose to stand pat with $6,800.

Emma also got it right with Kasparov. She bet $10,000 and finished with $22,200.

Scott thought it was Bobby Fischer, who died in 2008. He lost his $7,401 bet and finished with $9,599. That made Emma Saltzberg the new Jeopardy! champion.

Final Jeopardy (2/2/2022) Scott Plummer, Ben Sloat, Emma Saltzberg

  1. Jason says:

I got totally sidetracked, because I thought of “Arrow”, where, in the flashbacks in the first season, Oliver’s family yacht was “The Queen’s Gambit”, and I completely didn’t think of chess.

  2. Tery says:

When is ken scheduled to return?

  3. Howard says:

Never saw the show, but I knew it was chess-related. Only player I’ve heard of in the past 40 years was Garry Kasparov, so that was my guess. Good for Emma! Bobby Fischer died 14 years ago.

  4. Rick says:

I never watched ‘The Queen’s Gambit’, ;but I heard Garry Kasparov’s name being floated around in recent times. Well, now I know why.

  5. Jacob Ska says:

I don’t watch the show but figured out the response from the title since I do play chess. Congratulations Emma.

  6. Lou says:

If only Ben had doubled up on his bet on the final that would have made the game in his favor. Congrats to Emma and Ben on getting final right. Anyway, have you played chess in the past, Howard, and how good are you in that game?

    • Howard says:

I played a little chess as a kid, but wasn’t especially good, and lost interest in it.
Ben would not have won the game had he bet it all; he’d have finished second.
