WHAT IS THE ST. LAWRENCE SEAWAY?

From Great Lakes Cruises: “Opened in 1959, the St. Lawrence Seaway is the result of a close partnership between Canada and the United States, serving two Canadian provinces (Ontario and Quebec) and eight American states (Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, New York and Pennsylvania). Ships passing though the Seaway cross the US-Canadian border 27 times during transit, making bi-national coordination critical to its operation.”

Although frequently used in print in the 1950s to apply to the St. Lawrence Seaway, “the greatest construction show on earth” description wasn’t exclusive to it. Disneyland also used the phrase in a 1959 poster to promote several new attractions. Of course, the original Greatest Show on Earth was P.T. Barnum’s circus. Cecil B. DeMille paid $250K for the rights to use that title (and more) for his 1952 Best Picture-winning film of the same name.

Ramón drew a blank. He bet his whole $1,400 and was left with nothing.

Julia wrote down “interstate highway system.” She lost $2,000 and had $3,800 left.

Ed got it right. He bet $4,700 and won the game with $32,100. Ed is the 4th semi-finalist.

Huh? The two challengers couldn’t come up with the St. Lawrence Seaway? I mean, I learned that in third grade.

I am happy to see Ed getting the semifinal spot but still though the lowest wild card scores are not looking good since the last teacher’s tournament. I just hope tomorrow will have a high wildcard score to take over the spot. Also the Thousand Island Bridge is just one of the bridges in New York that enters Canada spanning the st lawrence river. I was hoping the other two would know this answer today.
