NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHO IS ICARUS?
The quote in today’s clue comes from an 1871 translation in English blank verse of Ovid’s Metamorphoses by Henry King, M.A.– specifically, the story of Daedalus and Icarus in Book 8:
“Upon his wings
The rays of noon struck scorching, and dissolved
The waxen compact of their plumes:—-and down
He toppled, beating wild with naked arms
The unsustaining air, and with vain cry
Shrieking for succour from his Sire!”
More Poetry: Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s painting of the fall of Icarus inspired W.H. Auden to write “Musée de Beaux Arts”. The painting depicts Icarus falling into the sea while everyone else in the scene is indifferent to his plight.
Elizabeth thought it might be Polyphemus. She bet nothing, standing pat on $3,800.
Mikey tried Prometheus. She lost $5,000 and finished with $2,600.
Mahal came up with Aeneas. He lost $3,001 and won the game with $9,799. Mehal Shah is the new Jeopardy! champ.

Total local preemption here tonight, so it’s only the recap for me.
Stumpers, FJ, 2/3 DDs unkind to me. Surprised she missed that middle DD.
Liked the 21st century movies category.
Yeah tough final for me also but I also don’t know mythology at all.
I did poorly in today’s game, and the FJ was surely gettable (but I didn’t come up with the correct response). I mean, the clues given in FJ were clearly a dead giveaway. Gee, and we were all taught about Daedalus and Icarus in grade school even. Anyways, all of the contestants performed well, and it was another great game.
That was a tough final as we got a triple stumper.
