TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
The UN Special Committee on Apartheid was established well before the controversy over Paul Simon’s 1986 album “Graceland” arose. Many famous performers found themselves on its blacklist for ignoring the cultural boycott imposed on South Africa, such as Frank Sinatra, Goldie Hawn, Ray Charles, Rod Stewart and Dolly Parton. So Paul Simon was well aware of the boycott, but he believed he was shining a spotlight on the music of black South Africans. The African National Congress vehemently protested and voted to ban him from the country. Indeed, according to Steven Van Zandt of the E Street Band, one militant South African group had Simon’s name on a hit list and the singer would be dead if it wasn’t for him.
Despite all the controversy, Simon’s name was taken off the blacklist in 1987. The album was a huge success and won the 1987 Grammy for Album of the Year.
Steven got it right. He bet $7,053, bringing his score up to $14,653.
Jessica got it, too. She bet $9,799 to finish with $19,599.
Emily thought it was Bruce Springsteen. She lost $8,000, dropping her down to $8,300. That made Jessica Garsed a 3x champ with total winnings of $52,199.
Reversal: A WEE BIT OF KIWI HISTORY ($600) This 1915 military campaign in Turkey is regarded as New Zealand’s coming of age in international affairs – Jessica’s “Dardanelles” was rejected in favor of Steven’s “Gallipoli.” She got credit for it during the chat.

This was a very close game and I thought Jessica would have been finished for sure. But I am happy that both contestants got final right. Are you familiar with Simon and Garfunkel VJ? They were the legendary music duo so I am thinking that where the name paul simon came from. I really hope Jessica wins her fourth game. Man I loved when pranjal shouted stella in his previous game run. It was really funny.
I loved Pranjal Vachaspati’s ”STELLA!” yell, as well. I could not stop laughing, because of it.
And Ken Jennings’s “STELLA!” as well.
I hope Jeopardy! puts up a video of that Shouted Movie Quotes category. I thought I detected a little note of amusement in Alex’s “matter of fact” readings, though I think he would have preferred to shout them out! I figured they would have put the Stella one in there when I saw this one on J6! — 1976: “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not gonna take this anymore!”
