WHAT IS D-DAY?

In “D-Day: Operation Overlord,” Winston Churchill recalled how the preparations for D-Day (6/6/1944) began: “The London-based staff of Lt. Gen. Frederick E. Morgan, the Chief of Staff to the Supreme Allied Commander (COSSAC) had begun planning for a landing in western Europe in early 1943. Morgan’s group developed the so-called “COSSAC” Plan for the invasion of France, from May 1943 on code-named Overlord. The naval aspect… would later be called Neptune.

Sara got it right. She bet $9,950, bringing her score up to $20,150.

Maureen didn’t have a response. She didn’t bet anything either so she remained at $10,200.

Adam got it right, too. He bet $206 and won the game with $25,706. Adam Francois Watkins is the new Jeopardy! champ.

    VJ, there’s a spelling error on the throwback FJ question.

  2. John Christian Ambion says:

    Ended the week with a runaway and a new champion, like yesterday. The clock is back again to 0, and maybe, Adam could be in the ToC, if he win two more and past beyond Jeffrey, or have a 4-game streak cut out for it. Triple Solver yesterday, Triple Solver today, BOTH runaway games.

    • John B./I. says:

      @John Christian Ambion

      1. Yesterday was NOT a runaway game.
      2. Adam would probably not make it to the 2018 ToC, since they tape the shows about 6 weeks before they air, at least as far as I know. So it may be already underway being taped or start any day now. Adam would probably be too late for 2018, he would have to take his chances for 2019, provided he wins at least 3 games and a lot of money or 4 games. And who knows, in season 35 four games might not even be enough if we have enough 5 or 6 game winners plus the tournament winners who qualify automatically.
      So Jeffrey seems to be pretty safe, at least at the moment.

      • John Christian Ambion says:

        @John Apologize for my error. it was not a runaway game yesterday, and today was not a Triple Solve. Besides, don’t jump into conclusions. Adam still have a lot of game left to “spoil” and steal a spot in the ToC, so unless they haven’t released the date for the 2019 ToC, Jeffrey could be in trouble.

        • John B./I. says:

          @ John Christian Ambion
          O he IS in trouble. I don’t think they announced yet whether the ToC will be pretty soon after the All Stars game or in 2019 and if so, when.
          He must be a nervous wreck. Ah well, life ain’t fair, more often than it is.
          You have a nice weekend too and “see” you all Monday!!

        • VJ says:

          @John B, I doubt very much that 3x champs worry about their status — I don’t think they even expect to make it into the ToC Take a look at the old 2016-17 ToC list. They held out on that one till all participants were 5x champs.

  3. Lou says:

    Congrats to VJ and JJ for naling it again. Adam was on a roll and making it harder for the ladies to catch up. Still though I really thought sara was going to win a few more games next week, but well I hope Adam can do it since it has been two weeks with leader curses and a 3 time winner who didn’t get into the toc.

    At least Maureen didn’t bet it all despite not getting final jeopardy right. I commend her unlike the previous players who made bad guesses and having buzzer issues. Also VJ, have you watched any movies that involved D-Day? There was a game called Company of Heroes which deals with the allies and britain fighting Germany during the second world war which I am sure your kids played many times. I also studied upon the history of it back in high school.

    • VJ says:

      @Lou, I guess I’ve seen my share of WWII movies, though the one I remember best is “King Rat” with George Segal.

      @Lou and John, thanks for the congrats.

      LINK: 10 more clues from the match, including the one about the “Flying Mare” — yikes!!

    • John B./I. says:

      @Lou
      There was no “reply” button under your post re: All Star game. So no ToC in 2018? Unfair. Now even players like Kyle Becker (4 wins), Rachel Lindgren and Gilbert Collins (5 wins each) have to worry.

  4. John B./I. says:

    Congratulations VJ @ JJ, nailed it again! Kudos also to Adam (the 8.1K in DD money didn’t hurt either).
    Jeffrey is happy to see the ToC clock reset again, since Sara could not repeat. By now the Toc should be taping already or begin taping shortly. IF they have it in November…

    @ VJ
    Did you hear anything definitive about the ToC yet, VJ?

    Have a great and safe weekend everybody!!
    ALOHA from hot Maui (92 F)! My wife, still in Austria has 40 (!)F, it’s snowing all the way down to 3000 foot level already…Will be a shock for her when she comes back…

    • VJ says:

      @John, I am operating under the assumption that the All Stars games will take place before the next ToC

      • John B./I. says:

        ok, thanks.

        • John B./I. says:

          @VJ
          Wait, the ALL- STAR game?? If you are talking about baseball, that game is not until summer 2019 again, meaning there will be no ToC in 2018?
          Or do you mean the World Series???That series would be in October (starting October 23, and if they have to play 7 games it would finish early November . 7 game days and the off days in between changing locations would move game 7 over into early November 2018) but would make a ToC in November 2018 possible. So All -Star game or World Series??

        • Lou says:

          @John, she was talking about the jeopardy all star games, which means the contestants like buzzy Cohen, Austin Rogers, Julia Collins and so forth that won past tournaments coming back to compete again in February 2019. This has nothing to do with the world series. This season will feature those past competitors as I mentioned. So the toc will be postponed till November 2019.
