WHAT IS “K”?

In 1888, upon perfecting a hand-held camera that would usher in the age of amateur photography, George Eastman needed a unique name for his product. He invented a word that would one day make “Kodak moment” a household phrase. His remarks on how he came up with his trademark are often quoted: “The letter ‘K’ had been a favorite with me– it seems a strong, incisive sort of letter. Therefore, the word I wanted had to start with ‘K.’ Then it became a question of trying out a great number of combinations that made words starting and ending with ‘K.’ The word ‘Kodak’ is the result. Instead of merely making cameras and camera supplies, we made Kodaks and Kodak supplies. It became the distinctive word for our products. Hence the slogan: ‘If it isn’t an Eastman, it isn’t a Kodak'”

Byron bet $1,001. He finished with $7,801.

Patrick bet $7,000, bringing him up to $14,800.

Anand added $1,000 to win this one with $22,000. His 3-day total is $57,001.

To Sir With Love was too long ago…..

  2. TaiwanBill says:

I know that Sir Robert was considered many times, but I presume that he had already received about every honor available at the time. And if the committee gave him the Nobel Peace Prize, it would have to consider one for Juliette Gordon Low, as well; whose birthday, by the way, was Oct. 31st. I don’t know if she was ever nominated.
I suppose everyone knows by now that Clyde Tombaugh was the great-uncle of Clayton Kershaw, who might be pitching tonight in the final game of the World Series.

  3. Becci says:

I can’t believe that nobody got ‘To Sir With Love’, especially Byron. He looks to be the right age?

    • VJ says:

idk, Becci, I’d say Byron was just a baby when that movie came out, if he was even born yet. That was 50 years ago.

Lulu was married to one of the Bee Gee twins for a few years — Maurice. idk where they got she had a small part in the film. Her character had a name and she sang the title song in the gym.

      • Becci says:

I was 14 when it came out and Byron looks to be the same generation as me (Baby Boomer).

        • VJ says:

I was 16 when it came out and saw it in the movie theater. Funny, the only people I could actually name from the cast are Sidney Poitier, Lulu and Judy Geeson.

Anyhow, I wouldn’t say I was an ace at guessing people’s ages, but I thought Byron was about 50 give or take a couple of years.

Did WOF get pre-empted as well?

  5. Lou says:

Congrats once again to anand, I think he has the potential to win some more games tomorrow hopefully. Also the letter K could mean a lot of things. So the question here VJ, what was the name of the award that Lord Powell was supposed to get for creating the boy scouts?

    • VJ says:

@Lou, Baden Powell was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

      • Lou says:

Good thing it was not preempted here as though it was not a one hour world news edition. Furthermore, If anand keeps the wins going, he could be like Vishay Balse during his game run, don’t you agree VJ? Although Anand would have been guaranteed a spot but it looks like he wil be bumped into the 2018 tournament of champions in season 35

No Jeopardy here tonight because of the sickening events that took place in Lower Manhattan this afternoon.
