WHAT IS TEXAS?

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has a web page with “Interstate and U.S. Highway Facts” pertaining to the Lone Star State. Included in that list:

• There are 3,233 miles of the 45,000-mile Interstate Highway System in Texas.
• The longest Interstate Highway in Texas is IH 10, running for 878.7 miles between El Paso and Orange.
• The shortest Interstate Highway in Texas is IH 110, a length of 0.919 mile, in El Paso County.

The last one on the list says that U. S. 81 and U. S. 287 in Montague County are paved with gold. Seriously.

Jay thought it was California. He lost his $4,000 bet and finished with $800.

Sarah got it right. She didn’t bet a penny, standing pat on $6,000.

T.J. also went with California. He lost $600, winning the game and the semi-final sport with the remaining $20,000.

Had to be Texas; it’s a wide state, whereas no part of California could have an 800-mile stretch of interstate. I drove thru TX twice, but it was the panhandle. Texas was the largest state in area till Alaska came along.

DDs crushed me, as did all the stumpers except carbolic ___ and the literary giants’ first name.

  2. Jason says:

I was only 1/3 for DD, getting only the third one correct. I guessed at Texas, and stuck to it. I considered CA, but stood by my first choice.

TJ has an exuberance, but, I didn’t find it annoying. When he got the S African president correct, his reaction was worth it! Then, even more so with the Comintern!

  3. Rick says:

My first thought was Texas for FJ, and then I changed it to California. Drat!
