Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
Theoi Greek Mythology’s page on Ekhidna (Greek) or Echidna (Latin) describes her as a half-woman, half-snake “she-dragon” who with her consort, Typhoeus, gave birth to a bunch of monsters. It lists various sources and quotes that named Echidna as the mother of the Sphinx. Its page for the Sphinx lists Echidna and Tyhpoeus as parents, and also the Chimera, with 2 different fathers. However, the second prompt in the clue shows that the cluewriters went with Echidna as the mommy.
Online Biology’s dictionary has a common definition of echidna as “a monster, half maid and half serpent.” and this zoological definition: “a genus of monotremata found in Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea….” Then if you click on monotremata, it’s a “subdivision of the class Mammalia comprised of mammals laying eggs rather than giving birth to live young.”
Susan got it right. She bet $6,599 and that brought her up to $13,199.
Norm wrote down “Medusa.” That cost him $6,600. He had $200 left.
Lani wrote down the platypus. (Feel better, petit lapin?) She didn’t bet anything and she won the match with that $18,800. Lani’s 2-day total from her back-to-back runaway games is $35,600.
A triple stumper from each round:
THE GIG ECONOMY ($800) The Bolt DVR from this video recording pioneer unifies your TV watching with its minimum 500 GB hard drive
