Ed found the last Daily Double in “Self-Portrait of the Artist” under the $1,200 clue on the 10th pick. He was in second place with $4,400 when he found it but promptly got docked $4,000 on a reversal (see below). That put him in third place with $400, $4,800 less than Daryn’s lead. They also had the Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell 1968 duet “You’re All I Need to Get By”. Another ’60s song was Kina Grannis’ cover of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. The film also featured Sally Yeh’s 1985 Cantopop cover of Madonna’s “Material Girl” IMDB has a list of all the songs in the film.

  1. Gin says:

Why was ed docked $4000 instead of $2000 for ainu

    • VJ says:

@Gin, first they took away the $2,000 they gave him for “aino”, then they took away another $2,000 for a wrong answer.

  2. Tony says:

What happened on the question LANGUAGE ISOLATES ($1200) Kutenai is an isolate spoken in the Kootenay region of this Canadian province, near its eastern border with Alberta the answer was Saskatchewan. Ed answered Saskatchewan and Alex said no, Daryn said Manitoba which was wrong and Laura wasn’t able to come up with an answer. I though Ed said Saskatchewan so I looked backed on my DVR and Ed did say Saskatchewan and he did say “what is” first. So why was it wrong?

    • Tony says:

Never mind I misread the question

    • VJ says:

Tony, the right answer was not Saskatchewan — it was British Columbia. Alex made it sound like it was Saskatchewan by saying that province last when he was trying to show the players a mental map and said “British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan.” (See this map of the provinces — BC has an eastern border with Alberta)

  3. Albert says:

I think the show was being waaaaayyyy too pedantic about Ed’s pronunciation. I never even heard of the correct answer Ed gave, and the show had the nerve to rule him wrong. After all, there are many dialects and pronunciations in our vast country and Canada. I’m from Delaware and people in Delaware say “wooder” instead of using the Queen’s English for “water”.

    • VJ says:

I don’t think that was a pronunciation issue, Albert. It wouldn’t fly in FJ if a player wrote down “Aino” when the correct answer is “Ainu.” I noticed it when he gave his response and figured it would be reversed. idk how they say it in Japan, but in English, I guess it would be like saying “snafo” instead of “snafu”

  4. JP says:

I thought the Sumerian language clue was very difficult for the second row.

I bet Alex was disappointed no one could name the province west of Alberta

  5. William Weyser says:

Well, at least, the Triple Solve Curse is FINALLY broken, but I still can’t catch a break.

    • Richard Corliss says:

What can’t you catch a break on?

      • William Weyser says:

The 4, 5, or more time champions. I want the field for the 2020 or 2021 JEOPARDY! Tournament Of Champions to go quicker, instead of slower.

        • Richard Corliss says:

Look, William, I know that you’re upset about it, but there’s nothing you can do about it. It depends on their knowledge.

        • William Weyser says:

          Right.

It not only depends on knowledge, but also, the categories, and if they’re faster on the buzzer than their opponents. Just saying.

Oh, and also, if they’re lucky enough in Final Jeopardy!.

  6. Louis says:

Well ed played valiantly but still that movie he’s just not that into you and crazy rich Asians are my favorites. In fact I saw it last year with my family and it was so funny. Still aino sounds like I know. I think some people would find that a bit difficult to pronounce. Let’s see if daryn has the ability to build up a streak before the toc starts. Do you remember some of your favorite moments from this movie, VJ?

    • VJ says:

yeah, that was a real bad break for Ed. Aino is actually the first name of one of the members of that Swedish group Icona Pop that sang that “I don’t care! I love it” song from 2012. (Wow! didn’t realize it was that long ago!?!)

I don’t really have a favorite part of that movie. I was “just not that into” it. 🤣
