Dallas: Who is Fake Rebecca Sutter’s Mother, Eh?

As we were saying in the Dallas Season Finale recap, now we know the woman we have known as Rebecca Sutter Ewing all season is really Miss Somebody Barnes, and she is the daughter of none other than Cliff Barnes.

You did notice that Frank didn’t call her by her first name in her last scene in the finale, right? Yeah. If she is Ann Ewing’s daughter, what are the chances that she was named Rebecca after Cliff’s momma when Cliff already had a daughter named Pamela Rebecca from his relationship with Afton Cooper.

And we were also saying that we’d find it pretty strange if Miss Barnes turned out to be Afton or Ann’s daughter. We even went so far as to suggest that Cliff might have been getting it on with Elena’s mom.

That would at least account for the Spanish looking Miss Barnes. But we feel the need to retract that now that we have assembled photos of the whole bunch of them (see the gallery below). Now we’re going with Ann Ewing as the mother of Miss Barnes. Look at their eyes. That ain’t no coincidence.

We were seriously hoping they weren’t going there with Ann. For crying out loud, these women always end up sleeping with Cliff Barnes and one or more Ewings. She has a one night stand with Cliff, has a kid and eventually ends up married to Bobby Ewing.

In the 1987 episode of Cat and Mouse in which Brenda Strong appeared, she hooked up with Cliff after he had spilled a secret Pamela told him to Jeremy Wendell. Cliff evidently got drunk and took Strong’s character home, got romantic and then babbled about how sorry he was for all the things he’d done to Pam. The next morning, Cliff doesn’t even know her name and neither do the viewers, but Strong’s character thinks Pam is Cliff’s wife or girlfriend. She asks him if he loves Pam. Cliff truthfully says yes without further elaboration. Strong’s character says that’s why she can’t move in, Pam is lucky to have a man like Cliff and leaves. She must have been single at the time if she thought she could just move in with a guy she just picked up.

How she got separated from her child should be an interesting story, and we know it’s one Bobby doesn’t know about even though Harris Ryland does. It’s sure to be a whole new conflict for Bobby when his new step-daughter turns out to be the same woman who gave his adopted son the shaft and, if that’s not bad enough, Cliff Barnes is her father! There is a bright side though — Ann is gonna be a grandma to Barnes’ twins. In the Ewing family, the twins will really only be related by blood to John Ross because Christopher is their father and John Ross and Christopher are really blood cousins.

Christopher and John Ross are cousins – not courtesy cousins via Christopher’s adoption — real blood cousins because Christopher’s biological mother was Sue Ellen’s sister. (made that more clear in the post with a link to the real cousins post). Sue Ellen will also be related to the twins — she’ll be their great aunt. But not sure if Sue Ellen can be considered a Ewing just because she is going by the last name. The last marriage we remember for her was Don Lockwood.

How will the twins be related by blood to John Ross? I don’t see the connection.

I’m going with Ann, especially after watching the photos burn in the fireplace. Also, she has a bond with Rebecca (or whatever her name is).
