Chris Christie Betrayed

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie appeared at an almost two-hour press conference today to take responsibility for what is being called “BridgeGate” and what he termed a betrayal by members of his team, and specifically, referring to Bridget Anne Kelley, someone he had trusted and counted on for five years.

The scandal which erupted yesterday involved major traffic jams in Fort Lee, New Jersey back in September 2013, which occurred wehn the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey closed two of the three lanes that lead to the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee, across the Hudson from Manhattan. Emails that were uncovered and published by the media showed that this happened at the instigation of Bridget Anne Kelley and with the cooperation of David Wildstein, a Port Authority executive appointed by Chris Christie. The deliberate closing of these lanes was in political retaliation against Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich for not endorsing Chris Christie’s bid for a second term as governor (which Christie later won).

You can read all the details here on what happened back then and how Christie learned “for the first time” yesterday that there was proof that his top aide, Kelley, was involved, as well as Wildstein.

Christie has fired Kelley and he even took a trip to Fort Lee to apologize personally to Mayor Sokolich. The NJ Governor has been widely touted as the most likely candidate for the Republican party in the next Presidential election so speculation is rampant that this incident will totally ruin his chances.

You have to wonder what Bridget Anne Kelley was thinking when she cooked up this idea. She must be some piece of work because she blatantly lied to Governor Christie about having any knowledge of the whole thing. Chris Christie has a reputation for being a tough guy and, frankly, though he says he’s not a bully, we’d be scared to lie to him!

Speaking of bullying, it also makes you wonder why they bother to appoint committees to look into the causes of school bullying. When you have this kind of stuff going on in the adult world, is it any wonder there are bullies in our schools?
