Buffalo’s Jaret Patterson Rushes for 409 Yards and Eight Touchdowns in Win Over Kent State

The Mid American Conference is one of those Division I college football conferences that doesn’t get the attention that the Power Five conferences get, yet there are some good teams and good players there. The University of Buffalo, a MAC member, has produced a few players that have made it to the NFL, most notably, Chicago Bears linebacker Khalil Mack who was a 1st round draft pick by the Oakland Raiders in 2014. A future high round draft choice playing for the Bulls right now is junior running back Jaret Patterson.

Patterson rushed for 1013 yards and 14 touchdowns in his freshman year of 2018, and then exploded for 1799 yards and 19 touchdowns, plus 209 receiving yards and a touchdown in 2019. The Bulls have only six regular season games scheduled in 2020 due to Covid, but Patterson is making the most of them. He rushed for 301 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-17 win over Bowling Green on November 17th, and outdid himself in the Bulls’ clobbering of Kent State on November 28th.

Patterson had 36 carries for a whopping 409 yards and eight touchdowns in the 70-41 Bulls blowout win over the Golden Flashes. That’s an average of 11.4 yards per carry. He tied the FBS record for rushing touchdowns and had the second highest number of rushing yards in an FBS game.

Patterson’s season stats in four games (all Buffalo victories) are 107 rushes for 920 yards and 16 touchdowns. Buffalo’s remaining schedule has the Bulls at 2-1 Ohio on December 5th and at home against 0-4 Akron on the 12th. Akron has allowed 13 rushing TDs in for games, and an average of 225 rushing yards, so Patterson could put some big numbers in that game, too.
