Bucks Beat Nets as 2021-22 NBA Season Gets Underway

After a short off season, the NBA’s 75th season got underway on October 19th. With the delayed start to the 2020-21 season due to Covid-19, the NBA Playoffs extended into July, with the Milwaukee Bucks emerging as the champions. The first game of the 2021-22 season was a rematch of the Eastern Conference finals between Milwaukee and the Brooklyn Nets.

The short off season did not seem to affect the Bucks. Milwaukee got off to a 37-25 lead after one quarter on the way to a 127-104 win over the Nets. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 32 points with 14 rebounds and seven assists, while Khris Middleton and Pat Connaughton had 20 points each for Milwaukee. Middleton and Bucks guard Jrue Holiday had an even shorter off season, as they also played on the Gold Medal winning U.S. basketball team at the Tokyo Olympics after the NBA Finals. Another Olympian, Kevin Durant, led Brooklyn with 32 points.

There was one other game played on the 19th, with Golden State beating the Los Angeles Lakers 121-114. LeBron James led the Lakers with 34 points while Anthony Davis added 33. New Laker Russell Westbrook’s debut was inauspicious as the triple double specialist scored just eight points with five rebounds and four assists. But it’s a long season so we wouldn’t make too much of that yet.
