Braves Expand Winning Streak to Nine Games with Series Sweep of Marlins

Ozzie Albies hit a two run home run, Travis d’Arnaud drove in two runs, and Ronald Acuna Jr. continued his red hot season with a pair of hits as the N.L. East leading Atlanta Braves beat the second place Florida Marlins 6-3 in Atlanta on July 2nd. The Braves swept a three game series with their closest competitors in the East, although it’s not really very close at this point. Atlanta improved to 56-27 on the season and has a nine game lead over the Marlins (48-37).

Although the Tampa Bay Rays have the most wins at this point in the season at 57-30, the Braves have the best winning percentage in the majors at .675. The Rays are at .655. Atlanta is threatening to pull away from the pack in the N.L. East; besides leading Miami by nine games, they have a 12 game lead on the defending National League champion Philadelphia Phillies, a 19 game lead over the New York Mets, and a 22 game lead over the Washington Nationals.
