Braves Improve to MLB Leading 32-15 Record After Beating Red Sox
Austin Riley and Mike Yastrzemski hit home runs and Grant Holmes pitched six shutout innings as the Braves beat the Boston Red Sox 8-1 May 17th in Atlanta. The Braves took two out of three from the Red Sox over the weekend. At 32-15, the Braves are on top of the NL East by eight games already over Philadelphia and Washington. Atlanta’s record is currently the best in the majors. The Red Sox are in last place in the AL East at 19-27.
Riley’s homer was good for three runs, while Yastrzemski’s was a solo shot. Drake Baldwin drove in two runs without a hit. He walked with the bases loaded and drove one in on a sacrifice fly. Baldwin, last year’s NL Rookie of the Year, has put up many of the club’s best offensive numbers. He’s hitting .301 with 13 homers and 38 RBIs. Matt Olson also has 38 RBIs, and has hit 14 homers while hitting .276. On the pitching side of things, veteran Chris Sale leads the way with a 6-3 record and a 1.96 ERA. He lost his last two decisions, even though he allowed only two runs in one game and none in the other.
Atlanta next has a four game series in Miami followed by three at home against Washington.
