America Idol Top 9: Elimination Night

This week, the entertainment was provided by Janelle Monae performing her new single “What About Love.”

After sending Jena and Malaya to safety, Ryan sent almost everyone off to the lounge who was safe. The ones left were Majesty Rose, Sam Woolf, CJ Harris and Dexter Roberts. It was totes weird that Majesty, Sam and CJ were all seated next to each other with Dexter down at the other end away from them, away from Ryan. Dexter was sent to safety. Ryan asked Jennifer Lopez if she thought America got this one right but Harry Connick, Jr. jumped in to answer. It felt like he wanted to say “Oh, hell, yeah. Damn straight.” He said he felt like the voting results were based consistently on the performances from the night before. Funny, cuz Dexter got panned by him last night for singing in his usual lane while Sam didn’t.

Ryan also reversed the way he’s been announcing who has to sing for possibly the last time. He just got right down to the nitty gritty and told Majesty Rose it was her. “I knew it” she squealed and asked for a mike.

We had Majesty, Dexter and either CJ or Sam going to the bottom 3, but Dexter fooled us, getting more votes than CJ or Sam.

It was Majesty’s third time in the Bottom 3 and as we predicted, she didn’t get the save. She sang a very upbeat “Happy” while the judges conferred, hardly watching her at all. Maybe that’s the secret. If you can get them to watch, they’ll save you.

So we are now down to the Top 8: Alex Preston, CJ Harris, Caleb Johnson, Dexter Roberts, Jena Irene, Jessica Meuse, Malaya Watson and Sam Woolf – 5 guys and 3 girls.

Out of those 8, Dexter, Jena and Malaya have been in the Bottom 3 once. Sam, twice. One more trip to the Bottom 3 and Sam can bet the farm he’s out.
