Alabama Solidifies Hold on #1, with Ohio State and Michigan Following
Top ranked Alabama went to Knoxville to face #9 Tennessee in what many thought would be a close game on October 15th. But the Crimson Tide showed why they deserve to be Number One in the polls, blowing out the Volunteers 49-10. The Tide rushed for a whopping 438 yards in the game, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, who had 132 yards on 12 carries, and three touchdowns.
The Tide, now 7-0, won’t be able to savor the victory for long. Alabama will host #6 Texas A & M (6-0) on October 22nd. A & M had a bye week, after beating Tennessee 45-38 the week before. The Volunteers have a bye this week, which is no doubt quite welcome.
Ohio State remained #2 following a 30-23 overtime win at #8 Wisconsin. Despite picking up their second loss of the season, the Badgers are still ranked in the Top 10, though they fell to #8. The Badgers other loss was a 14-7 loss at #3 Michigan. The Wolverines (6-0), who were idle last weekend, scored an average of 57.2 points per game in their other five victories. They’ll probably score that many again this Saturday when they host 2-4 Illinois. Ohio State is at Penn State (4-2).
